We Are the Night is the sixth studio album by English electronic music duo The Chemical Brothers, released on 27 June 2007. The record entered the UK Albums Chart at number 1 and debuted at number 65 on the Billboard 200. It was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry.
The album won the Grammy Award for Best Electronic/Dance Album at the 50th Grammy Awards, making The Chemical Brothers the first artist to win this award more than once.
In June 2006, it was announced on their official website that The Chemical Brothers were working on material for a new album, then-codenamed "Chemical 6". Ed Simons of the duo was also quoted as saying that they would hope to "put a battle weapon out for the summer", a reference to their Electronic Battle Weapon series on white label.
"Electronic Battle Weapon 8" and "Electronic Battle Weapon 9" debuted on Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 show on 8 December 2006. The two tracks were later released as a double A-sided vinyl record prior to The Chemical Brothers' New Year's Eve appearance at Turnmills in London. A version of "Electronic Battle Weapon 8" is featured on the We Are the Night album under the title "Saturate". At the same Turnmills appearance, the duo debuted a track at midnight to welcome the new year. This track was eventually released as "Burst Generator", found on the album.
We Are the Night (German: Wir sind die Nacht) is a 2010 German vampire horror film directed by Dennis Gansel, starring Karoline Herfurth and Nina Hoss. The film deals with a young woman who gets bitten by a female vampire and drawn into her world. She falls in love with a young police officer who investigates a murder case involving the vampires. The film explores themes of depression, self-harm, the consequences of immortality, suicide, and explores Valerie Solanas' idea of an all-female society.
The film opens with several images of three young women. The images date further and further back in time, to the late 18th century.
Aboard a private aircraft, the pilots and passengers all dead, with bites to their necks, and the three beautiful young women pictured in the opening scene are the obvious killers. Preparing to leave, the leader of the three finds an air-hostess still alive, but after examining her eyes, she breaks the hostess' neck and the women jump out of the plane, allowing it to crash into Berlin.

We were born in the barren day Grew in the city like wild flowers Between the concrete and through the clay We saw a love and made it ours
You take me to my dreams We leave the world behind It's never understood How we are the night
We're the life they'll never choose We're the road they must refuse We're the colours they'll never see
