We Are the Champions

"We Are the Champions" is a song by the British rock band Queen, first released on their 1977 album News of the World. Written by lead singer Freddie Mercury, it is one of Queen's most popular songs, and one of rock's most recognisable anthems.

The song was a worldwide success, reaching number two in the UK Singles Chart, and number four on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. In 2009, "We Are the Champions" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and was voted the world's favourite song in a 2005 Sony Ericsson world music poll. In 2011, a team of scientific researchers concluded that the song was the catchiest in the history of popular music.

"We Are the Champions" has become an anthem for victories at sporting events, including as official theme song for 1994 FIFA World Cup, and has been often used or referenced in popular culture. The song has also been covered by many artists.

Music

Written by Freddie Mercury, "We Are the Champions" was built on audience response, with Brian May stating; 'We wanted to get the crowds waving and singing. It’s very unifying and positive'.

We Are the Champions (disambiguation)

"We Are the Champions" is a power ballad performed by Queen for their 1977 album News of the World.

We Are the Champions may also refer to:

  • We Are the Champions, the title of a 2011 studio album by garage rock group JEFF the Brotherhood
  • We Are the Champions: Final Live in Japan, live concert video of band Queen's performance in Tokyo, 1985
  • "We Are the Champions" (Asher D & Daddy Freddy single), a song by Daddy Freddy & Asher D
  • We Are the Champions (TV series), BBC children's sport competition
  • Af banen, also known as We Are the Champions, 2005 Danish film
  • We Are the Champions (TV series)

We are the Champions was a long-running children's sports programme that ran from 13 June 1973 to 25 July 1995. There was a full series every year until 1987, and one-off specials every year from 1988 to 1995. It was originally presented by Ron Pickering but, when he died in 1991, Gary Lineker took over as presenter of the remaining one-off specials.

The programme was formatted around a traditional British school sports day, where children would compete in various athletics and swimming competitions. Each programme concluded with Ron Pickering shouting to the children ""Away Y' Go" at which point they would all run and jump/dive into the swimming pool as the titles ran.

The series is poorly represented in the BBC archives, with even the last full series from 1987 not existing in full according to the Kaleidoscope Children's Guide.

In March 2010, We Are The Champions was revived as part of the BBC's Sport Relief programming. It was hosted by Paddy McGuinness with team captains Tim Henman, Amir Khan, Dame Kelly Holmes and Mark Foster.

    Arno

The Arno is a river in the Tuscany region of Italy. It is the most important river of central Italy after the Tiber.

    Source and route

The river originates on Mount Falterona in the Casentino area of the Apennines, and initially takes a southward curve. The river turns to the west near Arezzo passing through Florence, Empoli and Pisa, flowing into the Tyrrhenian Sea at Marina di Pisa.

With a length of 241 kilometres (150 mi), it is the largest river in the region. It has many tributaries: Sieve at 60 kilometres (37 mi) long, Bisenzio at 49 kilometres (30 mi), and the Era, Elsa, Pesa, and Pescia. The drainage basin amounts to more than 8,200 square kilometres (3,200 sq mi) and drains the waters of the following subbasins:

  • The Casentino, in the province of Arezzo, formed by the upper course of the river until its confluence with the Maestro della Chiana channel.
  • The Val di Chiana, a plain drained in the 18th century, which until then had been a marshy area tributary of the Tiber.
  • The upper Valdarno, a long valley bordered on the east by the Pratomagno massif and on the west by the hills around Siena.
  • Arno Atoll

Arno Atoll (Marshallese: Arņo, [ɑ̯ɑɳˠːʌ͡ɔɔ̯]) is a coral atoll of 133 islands in the Pacific Ocean, and forms a legislative district of the Ratak Chain of the Marshall Islands. Its total land area is only 5 square miles (13 km2). Unlike most other atolls, Arno encloses three different lagoons, a large central one, and two smaller ones in the north and east. Its main lagoon encloses an area of 130.77 square miles (338.7 km2). At a distance of only 20 kilometres (12 mi), it is the closest atoll to the Marshall Islands capital, Majuro Atoll, and can be seen looking east from Majuro on a clear day at low tide.

The population of Arno Atoll was 2,069 at the 1999 census. The most populous islets are Ajeltokrok, Kobjeltak, Rearlaplap, Langor and Tutu. The largest village is Ine, Arno.

People of Arno are well known for their productivity in making copra (the dried out meat of coconuts, from which coconut oil is extracted). Arno women are renowned for their production of the Kili Bag, a popular handwoven handbag/purse, named after another island in the Marshall Islands (to which the people of Bikini were eventually relocated as a result of the US nuclear tests that were conducted on their home atoll). Arno supposedly had a traditional "love school".

    We Are The Champions

    by: Adam Lambert

    I've paid my dues -
    Time after time -
    I've done my sentence
    But committed no crime -
    And bad mistakes
    I've made a few
I've had my share of sand kicked in my face -
    But I've come through
We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting - till the end -
    We are the champions -
    We are the champions
    No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions - of the world -
    I've taken my bows
    And my curtain calls -
You brought me fame and fortuen and everything that
    goes with it
    I thank you all -
But it's been no bed of roses
    No pleasure cruise -
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race -
    And I ain't gonna lose -
We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting - till the end -
    We are the champions -
    We are the champions
    No time for losers
