Wazir

Wazir (Arabic: وزير‎) is an official title, meaning minister in several West and South Asian languages. Its equivalent in English is vizier. The style comes from the Arabic word wezr (وِزر), which means "burden". Thus, a wazir is literally someone who helps carry a burden, by helping the head of the state get the job done. It is also used as a family name.

This word was first mentioned in the Quran when Moses prayed to God to appoint Aaron as his wazir (helper in the religion in the cause of Allah). Later on this religious wazir (helper in religion) was used for the political wazir (helper in the running of a government) of a ruler.

Wazir (Bagram detainee, 2002)

Haji Wazir is a citizen of Afghanistan who was captured in Pakistan in 2002, and held since then in extrajudicial detention in the United States' Bagram Theater internment facility. He is notable because he is one of the very few detainees in Bagram who has had a writ of habeas corpus filed on his behalf.

According to Lal Gul, chairman of the Afghan Human Rights Organization, Haji Wazir: "is not a commander, not a member of the Taliban or al-Qaeda. He is a businessman."

Wazir is one of the sixteen Guantanamo captives whose amalgamated habeas corpus submissions were heard by US District Court Judge Reggie B. Walton on January 31, 2007.

On June 29, 2009 US District Court Judge John D. Bates ruled that Wazir, unlike non-Afghans held in Bagram, was not entitled to pursue his habeas corpus petition.The Guardian reported that Wazir was apprehended in the United Arab Emirates.

Wazir (English: Vizier) is a 2016 Indian drama thriller film directed by Bejoy Nambiar and written by Abhijat Joshi and Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Produced by Chopra, the film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar in the lead roles alongside Aditi Rao Hydari, Manav Kaul, Neil Nitin Mukesh and John Abraham in supporting roles.

The film tells the story of two unusual friends, a wheelchair-bound chess grandmaster and a grief-stricken ATS officer, who are brought together by a peculiar twist of fate as part of a wider conspiracy that has cast a dark shadow over their lives. The game of chess is a recurring metaphor and forms the backbone of the story. The first shot was taken on 28 September 2014 in Mumbai. The trailer of the film was released on 18 November 2015, and the film was released worldwide on 8 January 2016.

The film received mostly positive reviews from critics.

Plot

Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officer Daanish Ali (Farhan Akhtar) lives a blissful life with his wife Ruhana (Aditi Rao Hydari) and little daughter Noorie. One day, while Daanish is driving with Noorie, he spots a known terrorist, Farooq Rameez, driving by and chases him. Rameez and his gang ambush Daanish's vehicle and Noorie is killed in the ensuing firefight while Rameez escapes.
