Waterman (occupation)

A waterman is a river worker who transfers passengers across and along city centre rivers and estuaries in the United Kingdom and its colonies. Most notable are those on the River Thames and River Medway, but other rivers such as the River Tyne and River Dee, Wales also had their watermen who formed guilds in medieval times.

History

Watermen or wherrymen were an essential part of early London. Using a small boat called a wherry or skiff they would ferry passengers along and across the river. With bad rural roads and narrow, congested city streets, the Thames was the most convenient highway in the region. And until the mid-18th century London Bridge was the only one below Kingston.

Waterman (song)

"Waterman" ("Aquarius") was the Dutch entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1970, performed in Dutch by Hearts of Soul, a trio consisting of the Dutch sisters Patricia, Bianca and Stella Maessen.

The song was written by Amsterdam lyricist and composer Pieter Goemans. It is an up-tempo number, with the singer asking a potential lover about his star sign - specifically, whether it is Aquarius like her own. She appears to receive an answer in the affirmative, as she goes on to explain that this similarity explains her attraction to him and then to liken him to the qualities embodied in the sign itself. Hearts of Soul also recorded their entry in English as "Waterman", and German as "Liebelei".

The song was performed first on the night, preceding Switzerland's Henri Dès with "Retour". At the close of voting, it had received 7 points, placing 7th in a field of 12.

It was succeeded as Dutch representative at the 1971 Contest by Saskia & Serge with "Tijd".

In 1977 the Maessen sisters returned to Eurovision, but then representing Belgium with the song "A Million in One, Two, Three", and as part of the quartet Dream Express. Stella Maessen went on to represent Belgium as a solo artist again in 1982 with "Si tu aimes ma musique".

Waterman (crater)

Waterman is a lunar crater that is located on the Moon's far side, and cannot be viewed directly from the Earth. It lies along the southern outer ramparts of the prominent crater Tsiolkovskiy. Almost attached to the southwest is Neujmin, so that Waterman lies straddled between these two features.

The outer rim of Waterman has been somewhat modified by its proximity to Tsiolkovskiy to the north, and it now has a slightly oval shape. The rim edge is worn and irregular, and ejecta material has been carried into the northern interior floor. There are a pair of lower albedo patches in the southern interior, which are typically characteristic of basaltic-lava deposits. A few low ridges lie about the center and also to the east of the midpoint.

People is a fortnightly Australian lad's mag published by Bauer Media Group. It has been published since 1950. It is not to be confused with the gossip magazine known by that name in the United States; that magazine is published under the name Who in Australia.

People focuses on celebrity interviews and scandal, glamour photography, sex stories sent in by readers, puzzles, crosswords, and a jokes page.

People was reportedly the first weekly magazine in Australia to feature topless models.

History

People was first published in 1950; it covered "everything from news, to scandals, to true crime stories."

Pix, a weekly men's magazine, merged with People in 1972.

People magazine started a "Covergirl of the Year" quest in the early 80s with Samantha Fox an early winner. The 1985 winner was Carolyn Kent. People had a deliberate policy of searching for "average Aussie birds" from 1985 onwards, trying to veer away from a reliance on U.K. Page 3 girl pictorials (though Page 3 girls still appeared, and indeed, Tracey Coleman was named Covergirl of the year in 1992 and 1994). Mostly scouted by and photographed by Walter Glover, many popular "average" girls became very popular and frequent cover girls. These include Lynda Lewis, Lisa Russell, Narelle Nixon, Melinda Smith, Raquel Samuels, Tanja Adams (real name Tanja Adamiak) and Belinda Harrow (who also appeared as the debut cover–centre of Picture magazine in 1988.

The Sunday People

The Sunday People is a British tabloid Sunday newspaper, founded as The People on 16 October 1881.

It is published by the Trinity Mirror Group, and shares a website with the Mirror papers. In July 2011 it had an average Sunday circulation of 806,544. By January 2014 the circulation had shrunk to 374,820. Despite its tagline claim to be a "truly independent" newspaper, The People endorsed the Labour Party at the 2015 general election on the recommendation of polling data from its readers.

Outlook.com is a free web-based email service from Microsoft. One of the world's first webmail services, it was founded in 1996 as Hotmail (stylized as HoTMaiL) by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith in Mountain View, California, and headquartered in Sunnyvale. Hotmail was acquired by Microsoft in 1997 for an estimated $400 million and launched as MSN Hotmail, later rebranded to Windows Live Hotmail as part of the Windows Live suite of products.

Microsoft released the final version of Hotmail in October 2011, available in 36 languages. It was replaced by Outlook.com in 2013. By 2014, the service had 400 million active users.

Outlook.com follows Microsoft's Metro design language, closely mimicking the interface of Microsoft Outlook. It also features unlimited storage, a calendar, contacts management, Ajax, and close integration with OneDrive, Office Online and Skype. In May 2015 it was announced that a preview of the new Outlook.com will move it to the Office 365 infrastructure.
