Wallpaper paste

Wallpaper adhesive or wallpaper paste is a specific adhesive, based on modified starch or methylcellulose, used to fix wallpaper to walls.

Wallpaper pastes have a typical shear thinning viscosity and a high wet adhesive tack. These properties are needed to slow down the penetration of the adhesive into the paper and wall, and give slow bonding speed which gives the wallpaper hanger time to line up the wallpaper correctly on the wall. The adhesive is usually sold in pouches or boxes as flakes that are mixed with water to produce the paste, it is also available ready mixed in tubs.

The wallpaper adhesive is applied to the wallpaper to let the moisture of the adhesive soak into and penetrate the paper. The paper will thus expand before hanging rather than on the wall, which would cause vertical bubbles in each panel of wallpaper as the adhesive dried from the edges in. When using nonwoven or glassfibre wallpaper—paper that does not expand—the adhesive is applied to the wall instead.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is a kind of material used to cover and decorate the interior walls of homes, offices, cafes, government buildings, museums, post offices, and other buildings; it is one aspect of interior decoration. It is usually sold in rolls and is put onto a wall using wallpaper paste. Wallpapers can come plain as "lining paper" (so that it can be painted or used to help cover uneven surfaces and minor wall defects thus giving a better surface), textured (such as Anaglypta), with a regular repeating pattern design, or, much less commonly today, with a single non-repeating large design carried over a set of sheets.

Wallpaper printing techniques include surface printing, gravure printing, silk screen-printing, rotary printing, and digital printing. Wallpaper is made in long rolls, which are hung vertically on a wall. Patterned wallpapers are designed so that the pattern "repeats", and thus pieces cut from the same roll can be hung next to each other so as to continue the pattern without it being easy to see where the join between two pieces occurs. In the case of large complex patterns of images this is normally achieved by starting the second piece halfway into the length of the repeat, so that if the pattern going down the roll repeats after 24 inches the next piece sideways is cut from the roll to begin 12 inches down the pattern from the first. The number of times the pattern repeats horizontally across a roll does not matter for this purpose. A single pattern can be issued in several different colorways.

Wallpaper (magazine)

Wallpaper* is an IPC Media magazine focusing on design, fashion, travel, design, entertainment, and media.

Origins

The magazine was launched in 1996 by Canadian journalist Tyler Brûlé and Austrian journalist Alexander Geringer, in London, UK. Brûlé sold the magazine to Time Warner in 1997. He stayed on as editorial director until 2002. 2007 saw the appointment of a new editor-in-chief, Tony Chambers, a self-styled "visual journalist". Through his stewardship Wallpaper* has become the world’s most important design and lifestyle magazine brand.

Apart from publishing the monthly magazine, Wallpaper* also has produced music compilations and published travel guide books. More than 80 different cities are currently available.

Other notable names who have worked at Wallpaper include Jeremy Langmead, Marcus Von Ackermann, Suzy Hoodless, and Alasdhair Willis.

Extensions

Wallpaper*'s website was launched in 2004 as an arm of the magazine. Since then the website has grown exponentially in line with the rise of online media. Rather than publishing reformatted material from the magazine, it covers breaking news across design, interior, art, architecture, fashion, travel, and technology. It also publishes exclusive online features, interviews, blogs from global events by Wallpaper editors, and a wide range of visual galleries. It claims on average over 635,000 unique users per month. Aside from producing the monthly magazine and website, Wallpaper* also publishes global city guide books with Phaidon Press. There are 80 different cities currently available, and more are being published later in the year. The city guides are published in English and there are also editions available in French, Italian, Spanish, German, Portuguese, and Japanese.

Wallpaper (band)

Wallpaper (stylized as Wallpaper.) is an American hip hop and pop music project, fronted by producer and multi-instrumentalist songwriter Ricky Reed, based in Oakland, California. Wallpaper. is signed to Boardwalk Records/Epic Records and has played at SXSW. He uses exaggerated Auto-Tune and minimal electronic music while satirizing the lack of feeling in mainstream pop.

History

In 2004, Ricky Reed started by composing songs on the computer and exaggerating the lyrics in Auto-Tune. As auto-tune became more prevalent in mainstream music, Reed's songs gained popularity. In 2009, in his album debut Doodoo Face (Eenie Meenie), Wallpaper. he moved on from past satire lyrics to legitimate songwriting and masterful production. Strains of Daft Punk rattled through the seething, bass-dripping "Celebrity." Brian Eno could be heard in the quiet electro of "Fine GF." For "Gettin’ Drip," he recorded his own chipmunk soul sample, while "Frk Scn" featured a distinct Ghanaian rhythm called "Ewe" that Reed beat out by hand.
