Walking on Sunshine (Eddy Grant song)

Walking on Sunshine is a song by Eddy Grant, originally released as a single and the title track of his 1979 album Walking on Sunshine. Grant's original version was not a hit, but the song was remade three years later by Rockers Revenge, a studio project assembled by producer Arthur Baker. The single, with vocals by Donnie Calvin, was number one on the dance charts for one week. The single did not chart on the Hot 100, but did peak at number sixty-three on the soul singles chart. It also reached number 4 on the UK Singles Chart. The song's bassline would later be sampled in Eleanor's 1988 song "Adventure," itself a number-one Dance Club Play hit in 1988.

Walking on Sunshine (Katrina and the Waves song)

"Walking on Sunshine" is a song written by Kimberley Rew for Katrina and the Waves' 1983 eponymous debut full-length album. The re-recorded version was at first released on the band's 1985 self-titled album as the album's second single (see 1985 in music) and reached No. 4 in Australia, No. 9 in the United States, and No. 8 in the United Kingdom. It was the Waves' first U.S. top 40 hit, and their biggest success in the United Kingdom until "Love Shine a Light" (1997). Conceived of as a ballad, Katrina decided to belt the song out.

Royalties from airplay and advertisements of "Walking on Sunshine" have been extremely high. Katrina and the Waves kept the publishing rights and the royalties that typically go to the songwriter have been divided among the band members. Estimates are the song has earned $1 million per year for the ten years ending in 2010. According to a former employee of EMI, "Walking on Sunshine was the crown jewel in EMI's catalog," and that it was one of EMI's biggest earners from advertisers.

Walking on Sunshine is the debut album by new wave band Katrina and the Waves, released in 1983. The album was only released in Canada, but now appears worldwide on the compilation Original Recordings 1983-1984. It has also been remastered and re-released with four bonus tracks on CD, under the title Katrina and the Waves (recognisable by the black and white cover, and not to be confused with the band's self-titled 1985 album, which contains revamped tracks from this and the following album, Katrina and the Waves 2). To complicate things further, a later greatest hits album by the band is also called Walking on Sunshine.

This album contains the original version of the title track, which would be re-recorded two years later and thereupon become the band's biggest US hit.

Roland Deschain

Roland Deschain, son of Steven Deschain, was born in the Barony of Gilead, in In-World. Roland is the last surviving gunslinger, a man whose goal is finding and climbing to the top of the Dark Tower, purported to be the very center of existence, so that he may right the wrongs in his land. This quest is his obsession, monomania and geas to Roland: In the beginning the success of the quest is more important than the lives of his family and friends. He is a man who lacks imagination, and this is one of the stated reasons for his survival against all odds: he can not imagine anything other than surviving to find the Tower.

Eddie Dean

Edward Cantor "Eddie" Dean first appears in The Drawing of the Three, in which Roland encounters three doors that open into the New York City of our world in different times. Through these doors, Roland draws companions who will join him on his quest, as the Man In Black foretold. The first to be drawn is Eddie Dean, a drug addict and a first-time cocaine mule. Eddie lives with his older brother and fellow junkie Henry, whom Eddie reveres despite the corrupting influence Henry has had upon his life. Roland helps Eddie fight off a gang of mobsters for whom he was transporting the cocaine, but not before Eddie discovers that Henry has died from an overdose of heroin in the company of the aforementioned mobsters (after which the mobsters decide to chop off Henry's head). It is because of Eddie's heroin addiction that he is termed 'The Prisoner', and that is what is written upon the door from which Roland draws him.
