Baby is a musical with a book by Sybille Pearson, based on a story developed with Susan Yankowitz, music by David Shire, and lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr.. It concerns the reactions of three couples each expecting a child. The musical first ran on Broadway from 1983 to 1984.

Synopsis

Three couples, each newly expecting a child, have different but familiar reactions. Lizzie and Danny are university juniors who have just moved in together. Athletic Pam and her husband, Nick, a sports instructor, have had some trouble conceiving. Arlene, already the mother of three grown daughters, is unsure of what to do, contemplating abortion while her husband Alan is thrilled with the thought of a new baby. Throughout the show, these characters experience the emotional stresses and triumphs, the desperate lows and the comic highs, that accompany the anticipation and arrival of a baby.

Waiting (Thursday album)

Waiting is the debut album by the emo quintet Thursday. The album was produced by Sal Villanueva and released on Eyeball Records in 1999. The photography throughout the album's artwork, with the exception of live shots, was done by Tom Keeley's uncle, Dennis Keeley.

Songs

The song "Porcelain" is a tribute and call to action regarding suicide. Kevin, best friend to Geoff Rickly, had committed suicide soon after moving to San Francisco while suffering from Schizophrenia. At the time of his suicide, there wasn't a toll-free suicide hotline available in San Francisco that Kevin was aware of and he was unable to seek counseling at the time of his death. The song "Ian Curtis" was named after late lead singer of the UK group Joy Division. Another victim of suicide, Curtis hanged himself in his Macclesfield home in 1980. The song contains many Joy Division song references, most notably "Love Will Tear Us Apart".

The song "Dying in New Brunswick" was written by Geoff Rickly about his girlfriend who moved to New Brunswick and was raped while she was there. The lyrics are about how he hated the city for what happened and how he felt like he was dying whenever he was there.

About the Book

Waiting is a 2016 Caldecott Honor book, a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Book as well as a New York Times best selling book. Waiting teaches children the seasons, new games and friendships. Waiting also teaches children the importance of waiting in ways that children can learn but also have fun while doing so. The author uses very soft touches of brown, green and blue colors to make very soft rounded shapes.

Plot

Five toys sit on a windowsill all waiting for something to happen. There is an owl waiting to see the moon, there is a pig with an umbrella waiting to see the rain, there is a puppy with a snow sled waiting to see the snow, there is a bear with a kite waiting to see the wind and finally there is a rabbit looking outside the window just happy to contemplate what is happening outside.

Sodium decavanadate

Sodium decavanadate describes any member of the family of inorganic compounds with the formula Na₆[V₁₀O₂₈](H₂O)_n. These are sodium salts of the orange-colored decavanadate anion [V₁₀O₂₈]⁶⁻. Numerous other decavanadate salts have been isolated and studied since 1956 when it was first characterized.

Preparation

The preparation of decavanadate is achieved by acidifying an aqueous solution of ortho-vanadate:

The formation of decavanadate is optimized by maintaining a pH range of 4–7. Typical side products include metavanadate, [VO₃]⁻, and hexavanadate, [V₆O₁₆]²⁻, ions.

Structure

The decavanadate ion consists of 10 fused VO₆ octahedra and has D_2h symmetry. The structure of Na₆[V₁₀O₂₈]·18H₂O has been confirmed with X-ray crystallography.

The decavanadate anions contains three sets of equivalent V atoms (see fig. 1). These include two central VO₆ octahedra (V_c) and four each peripheral tetragonal-pyramidal VO₅ groups (V_a and V_b). There are seven unique groups of oxygen atoms (labeled A through G). Two of these (A) bridge to six V centers, four (B) bridge three V centers, fourteen of these (C, D and E) span edges between pairs of V centers, and eight (F and G) are peripheral.
