Wael Jassar (Arabic: وائل جسّار) is a Lebanese singer born 22 November 1976.

    Jassar is a town in the Narowal District of Punjab Province, Pakistan.

    Geography

    The town is located at 32°6'0N 74°57'0E--> 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) East of Narowal while travelling towards Tehsil Shakargarh with an altitude of 233 metres (764 ft).

    History

    In 997 CE, Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi, took over the Ghaznavid dynasty empire established by his father, Sultan Sebuktegin, In 1005 he conquered the Shahis in Kabul in 1005, and followed it by the conquests of Punjab region. The Delhi Sultanate and later Mughal Empire ruled the region. The Punjab region became predominantly Muslim due to missionary Sufi saints whose dargahs dot the landscape of Punjab region.

    After the decline of the Mughal Empire, the Sikh Empire invaded and occupied Narowal District. The Muslims faced restrictions during the Sikh rule. During the period of British rule, Narowal District increased in population and importance.

    The predominantly Muslim population supported Muslim League and Pakistan Movement. After the independence of Pakistan in 1947, the minority Hindus and Sikhs migrated to India while the Muslims refugees from India settled down in the Narowal District.

    Jassar (name)

    Jassar is a surname found commonly among people of the Middle East and South Asia.

    In South Asia, Jat clan from the Pakistan and Northern Indian state of Punjab. In Pakistan they are Muslims while in India they are Sikhs.
