WPOL (1340 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Gospel format. Licensed to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA, the station serves the Piedmont Triad area. The station is currently owned by Truth Broadcasting Corporation.
At one time, this station was known as WAIR, which was a Top 40 station in the 1960s and 1970s. From 1970 to 1973, Tom Kent the nationally syndicated radio personality was just a teenager working at WAIR where he got his broadcasting start working under then owner Nick Patella.
In 1985, WAIR was three-fourths urban contemporary and one-fourth a simulcast of album rock station WSEZ at 93.1 FM (now WPAW).
For a number of years, most of the station's programming was the same as that on 93.1 FM. The station changed to its current call letters and gospel format in 1994. The WKEW simulcast began at the end of 2000.
In addition to the main station, WPOL is relayed by a translator to widen its broadcast area.
