WLAW (92.5 FM), known as "The Outlaw", is a radio station located in Newaygo, Michigan, owned by Cumulus Media. It transmits on a frequency of 92.5 Megahertz. Since 2006, the format has been a hybrid of country music and Southern rock.
Before playing its current format, the frequency was used to simulcast sister stations WKLQ and WLAV. The program director for "The Outlaw" is WLAV morning host, Kevin Matthews. The "Outlaw" radio format was developed by Matthews, with the WLAW-FM station serving to test the format before rolling it out to transmitters in national tertiary markets owned by Citadel Broadcasting as well as online via the website OutlawRadio.com in 2007. Although as of February 1, 2007 this effort appeared to be stalled with the station's website displaying "still under construction", since May 2007, the website shows signs of development being underway. Citadel merged with Cumulus Media on September 16, 2011.[1]
The station's transmitter is located on the same tower as sister station WHTS. The tower is owned by WZZM-TV.
From 1937 until 1953 the call sign WLAW was used in the Boston/Lawrence, Massachusetts area. WLAW-FM signed on in 1947. In 1953 WLAW and WLAW-FM ceased to exist in the Boston market.
