WJGL (96.9 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a Classic Hits format. Licensed to Jacksonville, Florida, USA, the station serves the Jacksonville area. The station is currently owned by Cox Media Group.[1]
The station went on the air as WAIV-FM on August 15, 1980. On January 1, 1990, the station changed its call sign to WKQL, and carried an oldies format as "Cool 96.9." In January 2005, the station flipped to a classic hits format (similar to WXGL down in Tampa, heavily based on 1970s rock, with some 1980s songs and a few 1960s songs.][2]
By 2012, following the flip of Clear Channel Communications' WJGH from classic hits to adult hits, WJGL became the market's only classic hits station.
