For many years, WJET was the leading Top 40 radio station for all of Erie, especially during the 1960s. WJET was mentioned in the movie That Thing You Do!, where the call letters are mentioned while Faye (Liv Tyler) is mailing a letter and listening to a transistor radio in her ear.
An Erie AM radio station with a long history and well-known call letters has gone silent ... "AM radio has struggled for 40 years ... "The time to fight for AM radio in Erie was back in 1986, when WJET moved from 1400 AM to 102.3 FM.
