WDMJ
WDMJ (1320 AM) and WIAN (1240 AM), The Talk of Marquette, are a pair of radio stations broadcasting a news-talk format. WDMJ broadcasts to listeners in the Marquette, Michigan. area, while WIAN is a simulcast to the Ishpeming area. WDMJ has been broadcasting for several decades and was originally owned by The Mining Journal, Marquette's daily newspaper (with DMJ standing for Daily Mining Journal). It began broadcasting in 1931 as Marquette's first radio station with call sign WBEO, later changing to WDMJ.
History
The 1240 AM frequency in Ishpeming was earlier assigned to WJPD-AM, which began broadcasting November 16, 1947, operating with 250 W full-time. The station, whose slogan was "The Voice of the Iron Country," was licensed to Ishpeming Broadcasting Company.
