W. A. Hewitt

William Abraham Hewitt (May 15, 1875 – September 8, 1966), was a leading Canadian sports journalist and sportsman.

Journalist

Born in Cobourg, Ontario, Hewitt moved to Toronto when he was four years old and later attended Jarvis Collegiate Institute. Hewitt and his three brothers all worked as journalists in their careers. While still in school, he began working for the Toronto News as a copyboy. At age 15 he was made a reporter and left school. In 1895, he became sports editor of the News and later supplemented his income as press agent for the Grand Opera House in Toronto.

In the fall of 1899, he was lured to the Montreal Herald as sports editor by Joseph E. Atkinson, the paper's managing editor, whom Hewitt had known and admired from Atkinson's days as a reporter in Toronto. A year later, Atkinson became editor-in-chief (and, eventually, majority owner) of the Toronto Star, and Hewitt followed him back to Toronto as the paper's sports editor. Hewitt remained in that role for 31 years, before accepting a job in 1931 as the first attractions manager of the new Maple Leaf Gardens. He passed the reins at the Star over to his long-time colleague, Lou Marsh. Over a 36-year career as a journalist, Hewitt never used a typewriter and wrote all his stories by hand.

Węża

Węża [ˈvɛ̃ʐa] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Korfantów, within Nysa County, Opole Voivodeship, in south-western Poland. It lies approximately 11 kilometres (7 mi) south-west of Korfantów, 13 km (8 mi) east of Nysa, and 41 km (25 mi) south-west of the regional capital Opole.

We`a

We`a or Wê‘a is a town in the Arta Region of Djibouti. It is located on the N1 road, which connects it to Djibouti City, located some 33 kilometres (20 miles) to the east. We`a is the second largest city in the Arta Region after Arta and before Damerjog. It is the primary transportation hub in western Djibouti via highway. The town is sits in a small valley.

History

We`a's place-name literally means "turn" in the Afro-Asiatic Somali language. It later formed a part of the French Somaliland protectorate in the first half of the 20th century.

Overview

We`a lies on the National Highway 1.

Nearby towns and villages include Djibouti City, Arta and Holhol. Public buses go from Djibouti City to We`a, taking about half an hour to get to the town. The ride itself costs around 350 Djiboutian franc. Arta is situated just up the mountain around 3 kilometres (2 miles) to the north.

Additionally, We`a serves as a commercial transit point for goods from Ethiopia. Ethiopian trucks and traders frequently pass through the town.

Western and Atlantic Railroad

The Western & Atlantic Railroad of the State of Georgia (W&A) is a historic, government-owned railroad which operates in the southeastern United States from Atlanta, Georgia to Chattanooga, Tennessee.

It was founded on December 21, 1836. The city of Atlanta was founded as the terminus of the W&A. The line is still owned by the State of Georgia from Atlanta to CT Tower in Chattanooga; it is leased by CSX Transportation.

This 5 ft (1,524 mm) gauge line is famous because of the Andrews Raid (commonly referred to as the Great Locomotive Chase), which took place on the W&A during the American Civil War on the morning of April 12, 1862.

Establishment

In 1836, the Georgia General Assembly voted to build the Western & Atlantic Railroad of the State of Georgia to provide a link between the port of Savannah and the Midwest. The initial route of that state-sponsored project was to run from Chattanooga to a spot east of the Chattahoochee River, in present-day Fulton County. The plan was to eventually link up with the Georgia Railroad from Augusta and the Macon and Western Railroad, which ran from Macon to Savannah. An engineer was chosen to recommend the location where the Western & Atlantic line would terminate. Once he surveyed various possible routes, he drove a stake into the ground near what is now Forsyth and Magnolia Streets. The zero milepost was later placed at that spot. In 1842, the zero milepost was moved to a spot immediately adjacent to the current day southern entrance to Underground Atlanta. The area developed into a settlement, known as "Terminus", literally meaning "end of the line". In 1843, the small settlement of Terminus was incorporated as the city of Marthasville. Two years later, by Act of the Georgia General Assembly the city was renamed "Atlanta".

Mercedes-Benz 5G-Tronic transmission

The Mercedes-Benz 5G-Tronic (also called 722.6) is an electronically shifted 5-speed overdrive automatic transmission with torque converter lockup that replaced the older 722.5 5-speed hydraulic transmission and most of the 4-speed 4G-Tronic transmissions. It was replaced by the Mercedes Benz 7G-Tronic 722.9 transmission which was introduced in 2003. However, all V12-powered cars such as the S600 and S65 AMG and the 5.4 liter v8 AMG kompressor models still retained the 5G-Tronic, which has a torque capacity of 796 lb-ft, as the newer 7G-Tronic is limited to 542 lb-ft, not enough to handle the torque from the V12 engine until 2014 with the new generation of V12 Mercedes cars adopting an iteration of the 7G-Tronic. Also, while rear-wheel drive W211 E-Class cars have adapted the 7G-Tronic, those with 4Matic retained the five-speed automatic, although the current generation W212 E-Class released for the 2010 model year has dropped the 5G-Tronic entirely, except for four-cylinder models.

W33A

W33A is a protostar located approximately 12,000 light-years away from Earth, in the constellation Sagittarius. As a star in the early stages of formation, so has attracted the interest of astronomers, who observed that while the protostar is accumulating material from surrounding clouds of gas and dust, it is simultaneously ejecting fast moving jets of particles from its north and south poles.
