Volcano is the eighth of the seventeen animated Technicolor short films based upon the DC Comics character of Superman, originally created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. This eight-minute animated short, produced by Fleischer Studios, features Superman's adventures in saving a small island community from a volcanic eruption. It was originally released on July 10, 1942 by Paramount Pictures.
The story begins with a narrator describing Mt. Monokoa, a volcano which has been dormant for about 300 years:
"On this peaceful island crowned by the great volcano, Mt. Monokoa, occurred the mightiest erruption that ever shook the Earth, burying the beautiful city beneath it in molten lava, and creating destructive tidal waves that raced around the world. For 300 years, this mighty volcano lay dormant. A new and more beautiful city sprang up at its base. But now, after centuries of inactivity, slight tremors are being felt. At the Bureau of Meteorology, a group of scientists watchfully check delicate instruments to determine the seriousness of this renewed activity."
Volcano (Italian title Vulcano) is a 1950 Italian drama film by the director William Dieterle and starring Anna Magnani. It was filmed on location on Salina Island, in the Aeolian Islands, and in Messina, Sicily, Italy.
The film is seen by some as a vehicle of revenge by Magnani against her estranged lover, the director Roberto Rossellini who had chosen Ingrid Bergman to star in his film series about marriage over her. Rossellini filmed his film Stromboli on the nearby volcanic island of Stromboli at the same time as Volcano was being made on Salina.
Both films were shot in similar locales in the Aeolian Islands only 12 miles apart; both actresses played independent-minded roles in a neorealist fashion; and both films were shot simultaneously. Life magazine wrote, "... in an atmosphere crackling with rivalry... Reporters were accredited, like war correspondents, to one or the other of the embattled camps.... Partisanship infected the Via Veneto (boulevard in Rome), where Magnaniacs and Bergmaniacs clashed frequently." However, Magnani still considered Rossellini the "greatest director she ever acted for".
Everclear may refer to:
Everclear is an American alternative rock band formed in Portland, Oregon in 1991. The band was formed by Art Alexakis, the band's lead songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist; and for most of the band's height of popularity, consisted of Craig Montoya on bass guitar and Greg Eklund on drums. After the limited release of their independently released debut album, World of Noise, the band found success with their first three albums on Capitol Records: Sparkle and Fade, So Much for the Afterglow, and Songs from an American Movie Vol. One: Learning How to Smile, which were all certified platinum in sales. However, the following two albums Songs from an American Movie Vol. Two: Good Time for a Bad Attitude and Slow Motion Daydream, were not as well received, and as sales suffered, Montoya and Eklund left the band shortly after in 2003.
After a brief stint of solo performances, Alexakis decided to push forward with the Everclear name, finding new musicians to perform with and releasing two more albums, Welcome to the Drama Club and Invisible Stars. Starting in 2012, Alexakis has also started up a 1990s nostalgia tour, called the Summerland Tour, that occurs every summer with Everclear and other 1990s alternative rock bands. In April 2015, the band released a ninth studio album entitled Black is the New Black.
Everclear is a brand name of rectified spirit sold by American company Luxco. Luxco Brand is made from corn. It is bottled at 151-proof (75.5% ABV) and 190-proof (95% ABV). Sale of the latter is prohibited in many U.S. states.
Luxco also manufactures Golden Grain Alcohol as the same spirit without the express brand name. A competitor, Gem Clear is bottled by the Quality Control Distilling Co. in Bardstown, Kentucky using roughly the same formula.
Due to the azeotropic effects visible in the distillation process, ethanol cannot be concentrated by ordinary distillation to a ratio of ethanol to water greater than approximately 96 to 4 by weight. The highest concentration of ethanol generally available for human consumption is 190 proof (95% alcohol by volume), which is about 92.4% ethanol by weight.
I like it here, in this quiet room
We can turn off all the trouble when we do what we do.
I like it here in the middle of the day,
We can hide inside each other when we need to get away
From rest of world
We need to get away from the world outside.
Way from the world,
Meet me by the place where we can hide
Somewhere they can't find us
Somewhere under volcano.
We can hide inside a volcano
We can find the good life on the inside.
I like the crazy way you look at me,
Without the grudge we can be what we were afraid to be.
I remember what it's like to be cleaner than...
I remember what is that makes me need to get away.
Away from of world
We need to get away from the world outside.
Way from the world,
We need to find a place where we can hide, yeah
Somewhere they can't find us
Where my chain... back to wild
They may let us out this time, oh.
I made the mistake, I paid the price
I walked away clean, you know I did my time.
You've been waiting for years, waiting for me.
Waiting the lead so we can find a dream
We can live under volcano with no trouble around
We can lose ourself inside a dream.
In the middle of the northern sound.
Get away
We need to get away from the world
Get away from the world.
We got to get away, oh oh
Get away from the world
We got to get away, oh oh
Way from the world
You know we got to go by the place where we can hide
Oh, somewhere we can hide.
