Viva (2007 film)

Viva is a 2007 American comedy-drama film directed by Anna Biller. It's a faithful homage to sexploitation films from the 1960s and 1970s, but with a feminist twist. The film has received mixed reactions, and "illustrates cinema’s unique ability to blend high and low culture."Viva premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival in 2007. It was also entered into the main competition at the 29th Moscow International Film Festival.Viva was released on DVD by Cult Epics on Feb. 24, 2009.

Viva (magazine)

Viva was an adult woman's magazine that premiered in 1973 and ceased publication in 1980. Its full title was Viva, The International Magazine For Women, and it was published by Bob Guccione and his wife, Kathy Keeton. Guccione was the editor of Penthouse, an adult men's magazine, and he wanted to publish a companion title for women. Viva was essentially an erotic magazine for women, containing articles and fiction delving into women’s fantasies, and exploring their sexuality, reviews of the arts, interviews with known personalities, fashion and beauty, etc.

Viva magazine usually exhibited photography containing male full frontal nudity and sexual encounters targeted at mature female readers. Among the photographers whose work appeared in Viva was Helmut Newton, who was lured there by Anna Wintour, the magazine's fashion editor. Wintour also worked with Denis Piel before he worked under contract with Vogue.

Viva Rapid Transit

Viva is a bus rapid transit service operating in York Region, Ontario, Canada. Viva service is integrated with York Region Transit's local bus service to operate as one regional transit system providing seamless transit service across York Region with connections to northern Toronto.

Viva was designed and built using a public-private partnership (P3) model. York Region partnered with York Consortium, which comprises seven private sector firms with international experience in transit design, architecture, construction and operations. Under the terms of the partnership agreement, public sector responsibilities include establishing fare policies and service levels, ownership of all assets, and control of revenues and funding. Private sector responsibilities include providing professional staffing and procurement support, assuming risk on all approved budgets and schedules, and assisting York Region in its funding and financing requirements.

Viva opened in stages commencing September 6, 2005. The second stage opened on October 16, 2005, the third on November 20, 2005, the fourth on January 2, 2006, and the fifth on January 27, 2008.

House (1995 film)

House is a Canadian drama film, released in 1995. Written and directed by Laurie Lynd as an adaptation of Daniel MacIvor's one-man play House, the film stars MacIvor as Victor, an antisocial drifter with some hints of paranoid schizophrenia, who arrives in the town of Hope Springs and invites ten strangers into the local church to watch him perform a monologue about his struggles and disappointments in life.

The original play was performed solely by MacIvor. For the film, Lynd added several other actors, giving the audience members some moments of direct interaction and intercutting Victor's monologue with scenes which directly depict the stories he describes. The extended cast includes Anne Anglin, Ben Cardinal, Patricia Collins, Jerry Franken, Caroline Gillis, Kathryn Greenwood, Nicky Guadagni, Joan Heney, Rachel Luttrell, Stephen Ouimette, Simon Richards, Christofer Williamson and Jonathan Wilson.

The film premiered at the 1995 Toronto International Film Festival in the Perspectives Canada series, before going into general release in 1996.

House dance

House dance is a social dance primarily danced to house music that has roots in the clubs of Chicago and of New York. The main elements of House dance include "Footwork", "Jacking", and "Lofting". House dance is often improvised and emphasizes fast and complex foot-oriented steps combined with fluid movements in the torso, as well as floor work.

"House Dance is an amalgamation of the post-disco era. A lot of their movements and what took place in certain key places, the Jack and a number of clubs after that. It was a community based dance so vocal points were surrounded by music and DJs, but many of the dancers who were not looking to create, ended up becoming a part of that dance vocabulary."

The major source in house dance movement steams directly from the music and the elements within the music such as jazz, African, Latin, soul, R&B, funk, hip hop, etc. The other source is the people, the individuals and their characteristics, ethnicities, origin, etc. You have people of all walks of life partying under one roof. Thus you have exchanges of information (body language) house dance is a social dance before these competitions.

House (operating system)

House (acronym for Haskell User's Operating System and Environment) is an experimental open source operating system written in Haskell. It was written to explore system programming in a functional programming language.

It includes a graphical user interface, several demos, and its network protocol stack provides basic support for Ethernet, IPv4, ARP, DHCP, ICMP (ping), UDP, TFTP, and TCP.

Equator (schooner)

Equator was a two-masted pygmy trading schooner that in 1889 carried passengers Robert Louis Stevenson and Fanny Vandegrift Stevenson on a voyage through the islands of Micronesia. They visited Butaritari, Mariki, Apaiang and Abemama in the Gilbert Islands, (also known as the Kingsmills) now Kiribati. Photographs of Stevenson's voyage exist.

Originally built in San Francisco in 1888 as a copra trader, Equator was converted to steam in 1897 and eventually abandoned in the harbor at Everett, Washington in 1957. The vessel was Everett's first artifact placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The remains of the hull are protected by a shed near the Port of Everett's Marina Park. Several attempts to rebuild the ship have failed, and restoration is considered unlikely. Built in Benicia, California, she is the last surviving hull of that time period known to exist. In her career she worked under sail, steam, gasoline, and diesel power. She worked copra, fish, tug and support for the Geodetic Survey. Because of her shoal draft she could get close on shore where other vessels couldn't go.
