Neighbours
Neighbours is an Australian television soap opera. It was first broadcast on the Seven Network on 18 March 1985. It was created by TV executive Reg Watson, who proposed the idea of making a show that focused on realistic stories and portrayed adults and teenagers who talk openly and solve their problems together. Seven decided to commission the show following the success of Watson's Sons and Daughters, which aired on the network. Although successful in Melbourne, Neighbours underperformed in the Sydney market and struggled for months before Seven cancelled it. The show was immediately bought by rival network Ten. After taking over production of the show, the new network had to build replica sets because Seven destroyed the originals to prevent its rival from obtaining them. Ten began screening Neighbours on 20 January 1986, taking off where the previous series left off and commencing with episode 171. Neighbours has since become the longest running drama series in Australian television and in 2005, it was inducted collectively into the Logie Hall of Fame. On 11 January 2011, Neighbours moved to Ten's digital channel, Eleven.
Neighbours (song)
"Neighbours" is a song by The Rolling Stones featured on their 1981 album Tattoo You.
Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, "Neighbours" is notable as being one of two songs from Tattoo You which isn't an outtake from earlier recording sessions. Jagger was inspired by Richards' own run-ins with his neighbours after the guitarist was evicted from his New York City apartment after complaints that he was playing music too loudly. On the story, Richards said at the time of release, "...Patti [Hansen] (Richards' wife) and I (have been evicted from apartments in New York). Mick wrote the lyrics to that - and he never has trouble with neighbours... I have a knack of finding a whole building of very cool people, you know, but there'll be one uncool couple... 'Neighbours' is the first song I think Mick's ever really written for me. It's one I wish I'd written, that."
Recording took place between the months of October and November 1980, and April through June 1981, at Paris' Pathé Marconi Studios and Atlantic Studios in New York City. With Jagger on lead vocals, electric guitars are performed by Richards and Ronnie Wood, with Wood taking the solo. Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman perform drums and bass, respectively. Sonny Rollins also contributes saxophone, one of his three credits for the album. Ian Stewart performs the song's piano.
Neighbours (Camouflage song)
"Neighbours" is the third single from German synthpop group Camouflage's debut studio album Voices & Images, released in May 1988. It was not released in the US, where "That Smiling Face" was released later in 1988.
The song was re-recorded at Dynaton Studios for its single release.
Music video
The music video for "Neighbours" features the band members strolling through a park where several young girls are playing croquet. One of their croquet balls disappears through a hoop, and another lands on a cross in the ground, and reveals a long, large zone filled with white crosses. The band stand and observe the sight.
