Vidisha

Vidisha is a city in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India, located near the state capital Bhopal. Vidishā is the administrative headquarters of Vidisha District. The city was also known as Bhelsa during the medieval period.

Geography

Vidisha is located at 23°32′N 77°49′E / 23.53°N 77.82°E / 23.53; 77.82. It has an average elevation of 424 metres (1391 feet).

Demographics

As of 2011 India census, Vidisha had a population of 155,959. Males constitute 53.21% of the population and females 46.79%. Vidisha has an average literacy rate of 86.88%, higher than the national average of 74.04%: male literacy is 92.29%, and female literacy is 80.98%. In Vidisha, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Historic places and monuments

Near the eastern edge of the old town are the remains of a large temple of the late Paramara period known as the Bijamaṇḍal. The building was probably started in the second half of the 11th century. That it was never finished is shown by carved niches and unfinished architectural pieces found round the base of the temple plinth. On top of the plinth is a small mosque made using pillars, one of which has an inscription dating probably from the time of king Naravarman (circa 1094-1134). It is a devotional inscription revering Carccikā (i.e. Cāmuṇḍā), of whom he was a devotee. The miḥrāb suggests the mosque was constructed in the late 14th century. To one side of the Bijamaṇḍal is a store house of the Archaeological Survey of India containing many sculptures collected in the neighbourhood. A step-well of the 7th century is in the same campus and has, beside the entrance, two tall pillars with Kṛṣṇa scenes. These are the earliest Kṛṣṇa scenes in the art of central India.

Vidisha Vidhan Sabha Constituency(Hindi:विदिशा विधान सभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) is one of the 230 Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) constituencies of Madhya Pradesh state in central India. This constituency came into existence in 1957, as one of the Vidhan Sabha constituencies of Madhya Pradesh state. Presently BJP's Kalyan Singh Thakur is the MLA from this constituency. When the by-election for this seat held in 2014 after CM of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan resigned from this constituency post registering victory at two seats Budhni and Vidisha Vidhan Sabha constituency.

This constituency presently covers the entire Vidisha tehsil of the district with 141, and entire Gulabganj tehsil's 75 villages. It has total 239 polling booth. Total Voters in the constituency are 1,90,472.

Vidisha is part of Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency along with seven other Vidhan Sabha segments namely Basoda in Vidisha district; Bhojpur, Sanchi and Silwani in Raisen district; Budhni, Ichhawar in Sehore District; Khategaon in Dewas district.

Vidisha (actress)

Vidisha is an Indian actress and model who stars in South Indian, mostly Telugu, films.

Career

Vidisha hails from Uttar Pradesh. She has one elder brother and one younger sister, Shanvi Srivastava, who is also an actress in South Indian films. She graduated in biotechnology and did a course in business management.

Vidisha had always wanted to be an actor but first started doing modelling. She made her film debut at 19 in SP Entertainments's Maa Iddari Madhya. In 2007, she had three releases in early 2007, Alaa, Prem and in E. V. V. Satyanarayana's Athili Sattibabu LKG, out of which Athili Sattibabu LKG was a hit. Oneindia in its Alaa review wrote that Vidisha "looked gorgeous and she is the only saving grace adding to the film the glamour quotient of the film". About her performance in Athili Sattibabu LKG, Sify wrote, "Vidisha is superb in dance sequences and proved her mettle as a good dancer. She also has enough scope to display her talents". Similarly, Indiaglitz wrote, "Vidisha had performed well, besides filling the glamour slot".
