Chrysopogon zizanioides, commonly known as vetiver (derived from the Tamil: வெட்டிவேர் věţţivēr) is a perennial bunchgrass of the Poaceae family, native to India. In western and northern India, it is popularly known as khus.
Vetiver is most closely related to Sorghum but shares many morphological characteristics with other fragrant grasses, such as lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), citronella (Cymbopogon nardus, C. winterianus), and palmarosa (Cymbopogon martinii).
Vetiver can grow up to 150 centimetres (5 ft) high and form clumps as wide. The stems are tall and the leaves are long, thin, and rather rigid. The flowers are brownish-purple. Unlike most grasses, which form horizontally spreading, mat-like root systems, vetiver's roots grow downward, 2 metres (7 ft) to 4 metres (13 ft) in depth. Source:
The vetiver bunch grass has a gregarious habit and grows in tufts. Shoots growing from the underground crown make the plant frost and wildfire resistant, and allow it to survive heavy grazing pressure. The leaves can become up to 150 centimetres (5 ft) long and 8 millimetres (0.3 in) wide. The panicles are 15 centimetres (6 in) to 30 centimetres (12 in) long and have whorled, 25 millimetres (1 in) to 50 millimetres (2 in) long branches. The spikelets are in pairs, and there are three stamens.

At forest edge, I swore I saw
a lovely young girl
from afar
(Did she smile?)
Yes, she seemed to smile right at me so I stepped in
(Was it dark?)
Yes, the light was leaving, wind came moving all the leaves, oh
Where did she go?
Long branches wept
quiver and feel
to hide promises
no one would keep
wanting to catch her there
I ran deep
into the woods
moving across
I looked back to find
I was lost
Up ahead I heard her footsteps but I don't see her anywhere
It's not like me to run off and leave the rest behind
(when coming making)
My way home and just leave this girl in these woods alone
(Is she real?)
Realize I'll never know the setting sun she soon won't show a thing
I've got to find a path
through the trees
I've got to find my own way
tonight
