Veolia

Veolia Environnement S.A., branded as Veolia, is a French transnational company with activities in three main service and utility areas traditionally managed by public authorities – water management, waste management and energy services. In 2012, Veolia employed 318,376 employees in 48 countries. Its revenue in that year was recorded at €29.4 billion. It is quoted on Euronext Paris and the New York Stock Exchange. It is headquartered in the 16th arrondissement of Paris.

Between 2000 and 2003 the company was known as Vivendi Environnement, having been spun off from the Vivendi conglomerate, most of the rest of which became Vivendi. Prior to 1998 Vivendi was known as Compagnie Générale des Eaux.

In 2014, following a major restructuring, the company adopted the unaccompanied Veolia name across its businesses.

History

1853–1997: Compagnie Générale des Eaux

On 14 December 1853, a water company named Compagnie Générale des Eaux (CGE) was created by an Imperial decree of Napoleon III. In 1853, CGE obtained a concession in order to supply water to the public in Lyon, serving in this capacity for over a hundred years. In 1860, it obtained a 50-year concession with the City of Paris.

Transdev Auckland

Transdev Auckland, formerly Veolia Transport Auckland, Ltd., and before that Connex Auckland, Ltd., is a Transdev Australasia company. It runs Auckland's urban passenger trains under contract from Auckland Transport on infrastructure owned and managed by KiwiRail. Auckland Transport receives funding to subsidise these services from the New Zealand Transport Agency, which receives funding from road user taxes and Crown appropriations, and from the Auckland Council through rates.

From July 2016 Wellington's commuter rail services (currently run by Tranz Metro, a division of Tranz Rail (now KiwiRail) will be operated by Transdev.

History

The previous operator of the train network in Auckland was also Tranz Metro. When the Auckland Regional Council called for tenders for the new contract, Tranz Metro did not tender and Connex (later Transdev) won the tender.

In August 2013, the CEO of KiwiRail, Jim Quinn announced KiwiRail's intention to join bidding for the Auckland metro contract in 2016.

Dunn-Line

Dunn-Line is a bus operator based in Nottingham, England, with services throughout Nottinghamshire operated from depots in Nottingham and Tuxford. The company also has a presence in the Lincoln area, largely through County Council contracted operations.

The company was also a large operator of National Express services and its coaches could be seen throughout the UK on scheduled express routes.

In March 2006 Dunn-Line was sold to Veolia Transport. The Dunn family went on to run various aspects of Rotala and Yourbus.

Veolia sold its Nottingham bus and private hire coach operations to Premiere Travel in January 2011, along with between 30 and 40 vehicles. The following month, its National Express coach work from the city passed to Yourbus.
