Veliki brat (English: Big Brother) is a Serbian production of the global reality show franchise Big Brother. The show is recorded and produced in Belgrade by Emotion Production.
Originally, the show began as a Serbian production with housemates form Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The third season also included housemates from Macedonia. For the fourth season Croatian broadcaster and producer RTL became involved, and auditions were held in Croatia, making the show pan-regional.
In Serbia, the show was often broadcast by different channels. The first three regular series and three celebrity series were broadcast on B92 channel, while the other two celebrity and the fourth regular series were broadcast on Pink. In Montenegro the show is broadcast by Pink M and Prva, in Bosnia-Herzegovina by Pink BH, OBN and BN, in Macedonia by A1 and Sitel, and in Croatia the show is broadcast by RTL respectively.
After a one-year hiatus in 2012 and rumors of cancellation, producers announced that the show would be back in 2013 for a celebrity series. A fifth regular series is planned to be broadcast in late 2015.
Veliki Brat 2007 is the second season of the television reality show Veliki brat, the Serbian, Bosnian and Montenegrin version of Big Brother. The second season started on 22 September 2007 and was supposed to run until its scheduled finale on 5 January 2008, however, immediately following the death of three of the evicted housemates–Stevan Zečević, Zorica Lazić and Elmir Kuduzović—the producers of the show, Emotion and B92 TV, decided to stop that season's broadcast on December 29, 2007. At 9:00pm on 29 December, the TV audience was informed about the stoppage of broadcasts effective immediately. It was announced that all of the remaining housemates (7 of them) had left the VB House during the afternoon, and that the prize money would be split among them. After the statement, archive footage of the three deceased former housemates was shown. There were no statements on what would be done with the amount of € 20,000 earned by two housemates as a part of their on-air secret tasks. This amount was supposed to be given as a humanitarian donation to charity organizations or individuals in need.
Veliki brat 2015, also known as Veliki brat 5 (Big Brother 7 in Croatia) or simply VB5, is a current series of the Serbian, Croatian, Montenegrin, Bosnian-Herzegovian and Macedonian production of Big Brother series. It is the fifth series of the show in Serbia and seventh in Croatia - for both a first series after the show went on a two-year hiatus. The series is broadcast by RTL Televizija for Croatia, B92 for Serbia, Televizija OBN and BN for Bosnia & Herzegovina, Sitel for Macedonia and Prva TV for Montenegro.
The series was originally planned for fall 2013, but producers decided on canceling the series, and said that they would instead do one in early 2014. Later on, in spring 2014, they said they plan to push it to fall 2014, or even spring 2015. On October 12, 2014, it was announced that the series will not be aired, because the house was demolished. However, this news was fake, since Slovenia used that house earlier in 2015 for their series. It was later revealed that Veliki brat would start on September 4, with Antonija Blaće and Sky Wikluh (who previously participated in the format) as the hosts. The Final took place on 12th December. This is the first season of the series won by a Macedonian housemate.
