Maria Evangelina "Vange" Leonel Gandolfo (May 4, 1963 – July 14, 2014) was a Brazilian singer-songwriter, guitarist, journalist, novelist, playwright, beer sommelier, and feminist and LGBT activist. Known for her distinctive soulful, bluesy vocals heavily inspired by Billie Holiday and Janis Joplin, she was famous for her work with post-punk band Nau, which lasted from 1985 to 1989, before beginning a solo career in 1991.
Vange Leonel was born in São Paulo in 1963; cousin of former Titãs member Nando Reis, her first musical ventures were with the post-punk band Nau (Portuguese for "carrack"), which was founded in 1985. Nau released an eponymous album by CBS in 1987, and also took part in the compilation Não São Paulo, Vol. 2, released by Baratos Afins; the band began to work on a second album, but would disband in 1989, after it was scrapped, and Vange followed with a solo career.
Her first solo album, Vange, was released in 1991 by Sony Music Entertainment, and spawned her most well-known song, "Noite Preta", which was used as the opening theme of the popular Brazilian telenovela Vamp. Another song off the album, "Esse Mundo", would be used as the opening theme for another telenovela, Perigosas Peruas. Her second solo release, the EP Vermelho, came out in 1996 by the independent label Medusa Records, founded by Vange and her long-time domestic partner Cilmara Bedaque in the same year. Bedaque also co-authored numerous of Vange's songs since the times of Nau. Vermelho was not as well-received as her previous album though, and Vange abandoned the musical career to devote herself to literature.
Vange is a former minute village now subsumed within the urban area of the Basildon Borough of Essex. As it is much smaller than Basildon, Laindon and Pitsea, it does not have its own town centre or railway station. The London Road (B1464) is the main road through Vange and used to be part of the A13 until it was bypassed in the 1970s.
Vange Hill Open Space is 30 acres (120,000 m2) of former plotlands lying next to Basildon golf course.
Vange Marshes is a wetland habitat.
The earliest parts of All Saints Church date from the late 12th century, with alterations from subsequent centuries. The last were in 1837. It is built of stone, flint and other masonry, with bands of brickwork alternating with tufa and rubble walling. A bellcote that was refashioned in 1816 tops it off.

Vange is the solo debut album by Brazilian musician and former Nau member Vange Leonel. It was released in 1991 by Sony Music Entertainment, and produced by Nando Reis (Vange's cousin) and Charles Gavin. Both were members of famous rock band Titãs at the time.
The album spawned the hit single "Noite Preta"; it was used as the opening theme of the popular telenovela Vamp, that premiered also in 1991 and ran until 1992. A music video was shot for the track, directed by Cilmara Bedaque (Vange's songwriting partner since the times of her former band Nau) and Luiz Ferré. "Esse Mundo" would be used as the opening theme for another telenovela a year later, Perigosas Peruas, that ran from February to August 1992.
All songs written and composed by Vange Leonel and Cilmara Bedaque, unless noted.
