Van

A van is a kind of vehicle used for transporting goods or people. Depending on the type of van it can be bigger or smaller than a truck and SUV, and bigger than an automobile. Van meaning a type of vehicle arose as a contraction of the word caravan. The early records of van as a vehicle in English are in the mid 19th century meaning a covered wagon for transporting goods (earliest reported record 1829). Caravan with the same meaning has records since the 1670s. A caravan, meaning one wagon, had arisen as an extension or corruption of caravan meaning a convoy of multiple wagons.

Vanailson Luciano de Souza Alves (Federal District, April 25, 1991), commonly known as Vaná, is a Brazilian football player who plays as Goalkeeper. Actually, plays in Coritiba.

Career

Born in Planaltina (DF), Vaná was released by Coritiba's football academy. Before he became a member of the senior team, he was loaned to Canoas, Ulbra and Chapecoense to gain experience. In 2014, he was on the bench in all officials matches for Coritiba.

Vliet is a Dutch term for a minor streaming water, though it may refer to a city canal that connects such flows or a river with such, and is related to "vlieden" meaning 'to flow'.

Vliet, Utrecht

Vliet is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is located about 1 km southwest of the city of Oudewater, on the south bank of the Hollandsche IJssel.

Vliet or Ratelsvliet was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1846, when it became part of Haastrecht. During that time, the area was part of the province of South Holland.

According to the 19th-century historian A.J. van der Aa, there was no hamlet in the area in the middle of the 19th century. There were just eight houses, with a population of about 50. The area used to be a manor, also called Vliet or "Ratelesvliet", and contained a castle, Te Vliet. The castle was probably built between 1250 and 1300, and existed at least until 1515. In 1647, it was already a ruin, and nowadays just one wall still exists.

Vliet (canal)

The Vliet is a canal in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. It starts at the Oude Rijn at Leiden and joins the Delfshavense Schie canal at Delft. Places along its banks include Voorschoten, Leidschendam, Voorburg, The Hague and Rijswijk.

The canal was dug in 47 AD under command of Roman general Corbulo, who wished to connect river Rhine, of which the current Oude Rijn stream in Roman times was the main branch, to the Meuse estuary. It is unclear what the canal's trajectory was beyond the current city of Delft; the Delfshavense Schie canal, which connects Delft to the Nieuwe Maas river was not dug until 1389.

In the Middle Ages the Vliet was an important trade link that attracted all kinds of trade, as it flowed through the heart of the County of Holland. Windmills have been constructed alongside the Vliet, including the completely renovated mill 'De salamander' in Leidschendam. The Vliet area was particularly attractive among richer families, who built their mansions along its banks.
