Hurts are an English synthpop duo formed in 2009, consisting of singer Theo Hutchcraft and synthesist Adam Anderson. Their first two albums, Happiness and Exile, both reached the top ten in the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, and Finland.
Hutchcraft (born 30 August 1986 in Richmond) and Anderson (born 14 May 1984 in Manchester) met outside the 42nd Street nightclub in Manchester in November 2005, whilst their friends got involved in a fight. Too drunk to join in, they began discussing music instead; realising they had similar tastes, they decided to start a band. Over the next few months, they exchanged music and lyrics via e-mail, before forming Bureau in March 2006. They performed their first gig as a quintet in May at The Music Box in Manchester, and were shortly afterwards signed to independent record label High Voltage Sounds. They released their first double A-side single "After Midnight"/"Dollhouse" in November, which was made Single of the Week on Xfm. In 2007, Bureau disbanded and soon after Hutchcraft and Anderson formed the band Daggers. They signed to Label Fandango and in October released another double A-side single, "Money"/"Magazine", which, despite failing to chart, was nominated for the Popjustice £20 Music Prize.
1000 Hurts is the third full-length album by Shellac, released July 31, 2000 (see 2000 in music). It is Shellac Record #11. In its official promotional materials Shellac jokingly described this album as follows: "There are no 12-minute songs on this one. This record is more mean-spirited. Todd sings."
The cover is a clear homage to old Ampex audio recording tape boxes. The band are known for using analog tape for their recordings, and are fans of Ampex tape and tape recorders. Also, the speech at the start of the record is a variation on the announcements one would hear on Magnetic Reference Laboratory's calibration tapes for analogue tape recorders.
The album was named Rockfeedback magazine's record of the decade.
If tears are unspoken words,
then of course I come to you for a source,
but I aint have even one verse,
just suck it up and make the best of the worst,
even hearse after hearse,
if you come to me then suck it up G,
what up homie don’t cry your not the one and only,
what im sayin isn’t phony,
believe in me and then you owe me,
now show me I got the strength,
to withstand any length of tension,
my words will put you in suspension,
so don’t even mention,
anything thing that puts you into depression,
get by this world by a session of a lesson,
that will keep you guessin,
just sit up there fessin and fessin,
about how your less than the best then,
I keep telling ya again and again,
I wouldn’t lend ya life,
I rather stab ya with a knife
im a crazy lunatic for life
this is alittle thing i wrote...
