Myra Maimoh (born December 6, 1982 in Cameroon) is an afro-soul singer from Cameroon. Her debut album with Hitsmith Records in Germany 'Answer'd Me', was released to rave reviews for its musical breadth and originality. Her sophomore Indie album, 'Uniq', is due for release in July 2015, headlined by her sultry album single ' a no go tire'.
Camroonian-born artist Myra Maimoh grew up in a big, Christian family in Bamenda with her mother being her greatest musical influence by shopping for records and introducing her to all flavours of song and sound. Influenced by her mothers records of Skeeter Davies, James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, African music of the likes of Richard Bona, Bebe Manga, Kadja Nin and a large spectrum from country, traditional African, jazz and pop music, Myra started singing, composing and entertaining while still in preschool at the age of 3.
She wrote her first set of songs and stories at the age of 13, examples being "It's not too late", "Life is short", "Aberni ma Papa" and "Our Lord is always there". "It's not too late" later became a hit song interpreted by the Cherubic Queens, a very successful Cameroonian girl band in which she sang. She joined the Cherubic Queens at age 15, wrote and performed with them 3 years long.
I know the drill
You got your ball and chain
It holds you down, the circle round
This story stays the same
It won't be long
And then your heart is frozen
The time has come to break away
You've got it all
What makes you hesitate?
Don't just wait for things
To blow up in your pretty face
Lift the weight
Try not to let it slip away
And you may find yourself again
I feel people just don't know you like I do
Why you're making it so hard to see
When there's something wrong
It goes on and on
I know the drill
You've got your ball and chain
I found out the second round
That some things never change
Open my eyes
And let the days come over me
And maybe it will go away
I feel people just don't know you like I do
Why you're making it so hard to see
When there's something wrong
It goes on and on
You'll see not everybody's here
To break your heart
So there is a price to pay
To be someone you're not
I know the drill
You've got your ball and chain
I found out the second round
That some things never change
Open my eyes
And let the days come over me
