United! (novel)

United! is a 1973 children's novel by prolific British author Michael Hardcastle. It is the second in a series of books focusing on the fortunes of fictitious youth football team Bank Vale United.

Plot summary

United! follows youth football team Bank Vale United's attempts to improve their fortunes by buying a player from a rival team. Despite the fact that their team is amateur, United's impetuous striker Kevin Ripley believes there is no reason why they cannot pay for someone to come and join them. Kevin's team-mates Keith Nash and Gary Ansell, although sceptical, agree to the plan and the boys manage to raise the princely sum of £1 to purchase the talents of Nick Abel-Smith.

Despite Nick's obvious ability he is an unsettling influence and the Bank Vale players have to make a tough choice between success and loyalty. In addition to the usual football action Hardcastle includes a section on another of his interests, Motocross.

Marian Gold

Hartwig Schierbaum (born 26 May 1954), better known by his stage name Marian Gold, is the lead singer of the German synthpop group Alphaville, and has also recorded as a solo artist.

Born in Herford, West Germany, Gold became part of the Berlin art collective the Nelson Community, where he formed the band Chinchilla Green in the late 1970s, which also included future Alphaville colleague Bernhard Lloyd. In 1982, he joined Lloyd and Frank Mertens in the band Forever Young, which soon became Alphaville. He sang lead vocals on Alphaville's 1980s pop singles, including "Forever Young", "Big in Japan", "Sounds Like a Melody", and "Dance with Me".

Since the early 1990s, Gold has taken Alphaville from a studio-based project to a successful live act and has established the band's website, Moonbase.

Gold's first solo album, So Long Celeste, was released in 1992. Included on the album were cover versions of "The Shape of Things to Come" (originally by The Headboys) and "One Step Behind You" (by Furniture).

"United" is a song recorded by Prince Ital Joe and Marky Mark. It was released in April 1994 as the third single from their debut album, Life in the Streets. It reached number-one in Germany and the top 10 in Austria, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Switzerland.

1633 is an alternate history novel co-written by Eric Flint and David Weber, and sequel to 1632 in the 1632 series. 1633 is the second major novel in the series and together with the anthology Ring of Fire, the two sequels begin the series hallmarks of being a shared universe with collaborative writing being very common, as well as one—far more unusual— which mixes many canonical anthologies with its works of novel length. This in part is because Flint wrote 1632 as a stand-alone novel, though with enough "story hooks" for an eventual sequel, and because Flint feels "history is messy", and the books reflect that real life is not a smooth polished linear narrative flow from the pen of some historian, but is instead clumps of semi-related or unrelated happenings that somehow sum together where different people act in their own self-interests.

Premise
