Home directory

A home directory is a file system directory on a multi-user operating system containing files for a given user of the system. The specifics of the home directory (such as its name and location) is defined by the operating system involved; for example, Windows systems between 2000 and 2003 keep home directories in a folder called Documents and Settings.

Description

A user's home directory is intended to contain that user's files; including text documents, music, pictures or videos, etc. It may also include their configuration files of preferred settings for any software they have used there and might have tailored to their liking: web browser bookmarks, favorite desktop wallpaper and themes, passwords to any external services accessed via a given software, etc. The user can install executable software in this directory, but it will only be available to users with permission to this directory. The home directory can be organized further with the use of sub-directories.

The content of a user's home directory is protected by file system permissions, and by default is accessible to all authenticated users and administrators. Any other user that has been granted administrator privileges has authority to access any protected location on the filesystem including other users home directories.

Home is the second album by alternative rock band Deep Blue Something. It was originally released by RainMaker Records in 1994 and re-released on Interscope in 1995.

Underwater

Underwater refers to the region below the surface of water where the water exists in a natural feature (called a body of water) such as an ocean, sea, lake, pond, or river.

Extent

Three quarters of the planet Earth is covered by water. A majority of the planet's solid surface is abyssal plain, at depths between 4,000 and 5,500 metres (13,100 and 18,000 ft) below the surface of the oceans. The solid surface location on the planet closest to the centre of the orb is the Challenger Deep, located in the Mariana Trench at a depth of 10,924 metres (35,840 ft). Although a number of human activities are conducted underwater—such as research, scuba diving for work or recreation, or even underwater warfare with submarines, this very extensive environment on planet Earth is hostile to humans in many ways and therefore little explored. But it can be explored by sonar, or more directly via manned or autonomous submersibles. The ocean floors have been surveyed via sonar to at least a coarse resolution; particularly-strategic areas have been mapped in detail, in the name of detecting enemy submarines, or aiding friendly ones, though the resulting maps may still be classified.

Underwater (Delerium song)

"Underwater" is a single by Canadian electronic music group Delerium, featuring Australian singer Rani Kamal (daughter of Kamahl) on vocals. It was the second single released from the album, Poem, and reached number nine on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in the U.S.

Song

The album version of the song has a slow, ambient arrangement focused primarily on strings performances. Like nearly all Delerium singles to date since "Silence", the single release put greater emphasis on a number of trance remixes commissioned by Nettwerk Music Group in order to promote the song through club play.

Notable remixers featured on the various releases of the single include Above & Beyond, Rank 1, Hydrogen Rockers (an alias of Dirty Vegas), and Peter Luts (of Ian Van Dahl and Lasgo).

The music video for the song was directed by directors collective Twobigeyes. It was aired in two different edits, which were set to the Above & Beyond remix (the more common version) and the Rank 1 remix.

Underwater (band)

Underwater was an Atlanta, GA based trip-hop band formed in 1996 with Jeremy Wilkins on keyboards/programming/guitar and Melissa Mileski on vocals. Both Wilkins and Mileski were previously in the Florida based ethereal-goth band, Rosewater Elizabeth. The band later added Alec Irvin on drums and keyboardist/programmer/remixer, Matthew Jeanes.

The group's first album, I Could Lose, produced by Chris Vrenna of Nine Inch Nails, was released on Risk Records in 1998. The band also released an independent single, RED., and a second full-length on their own label, sub:marine, entitled, This Is Not A Film. The band broke up in 2001 after various personal developments and tragedies. In 2007 Wilkins and Mileski temporarily reunited and released a new EP, Welcome Home, with an additional multi-instrumentalist, George Lewis III, on board.

After underwater, Wilkins went on to play with several bands, including Allegra Gellar, Hawks Do Not Share, We Are Parasols, and his solo project, bdRm. He also runs Portland, OR based No Movement Records (previously Predator Friendly Records). Mileski was married and now goes by Melissa Morrisey. She is currently in the band, Gertrude Ross, with her husband, Bryan and has collaborated with Wilkins on his bdRm project. Jeanes records and performs as Larvae. Alec Irvin began using is given last name, Yeager, and has played in several bands including Vyie and We Are Parasols.
