Joseph Gurney Cannon (May 7, 1836 – November 12, 1926) was a United States politician from Illinois and leader of the Republican Party. Cannon served as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1903 to 1911, and many consider him to be the most dominant Speaker in United States history, with such control over the House that he could often control debate. Cannon is the second-longest continuously serving Republican Speaker in history, having been surpassed by fellow Illinoisan Dennis Hastert, who passed him on June 1, 2006. Cannon is also the longest serving Republican Representative ever, as well as first member of congress, of either party, ever to surpass 40 years of service (non-consecutive). His congressional career spanned 46 years of cumulative service—a record that was not broken until 1959. Although technically the second-longest serving Republican member of Congress ever (behind Strom Thurmond), he was the longest-serving Republican to never change his party affiliation, as Thurmond switched from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party in 1964. He was the subject of the first Time cover ever published, appearing in March 3, 1923.

Joseph P. "Joe" Carson mainly referred to as Uncle Joe, is a main fictional character on the CBS sitcom, Petticoat Junction (1963–1970). Uncle Joe is the only character of the series to appear in all 222 episodes. He is portrayed by Edgar Buchanan, who is described as "absolutely perfect in the role," and "the perfect choice to play the loveable codger."
Joe is a bachelor, never married, in his sixties. He lives at the Shady Rest Hotel with his niece, Kate Bradley, and her daughters (and his great-nieces) Billie Jo Bradley, Bobbie Jo Bradley, and Betty Jo Bradley. Although he is the self-described "Manager" of the hotel, Kate is the true owner and does far more work than him. Joe is quite lazy and often tries to get out of doing work; he complains "My lumbago!" whenever there's heavy lifting or hard work to be done. He also tries to create work-saving devices, such as a clothesline pulley system to bring luggage back and forth from the hotel to the train. His favorite place at the Shady Rest Hotel is the rocking chair on the front porch; he is also frequently seen napping on the sofa in lobby. Joe often teases Hooterville Cannonball engineer Charley Pratt about his weight, though Joe is pleasantly plump himself.

Joseph Jerome Cannon (born June 13, 1953) is a former outfielder in Major League Baseball. He grew up in Anne Arundel County in Maryland and was a first round draft pick by the Houston Astros in 1974, Cannon spent parts of four seasons in the majors with the Astros and the Toronto Blue Jays.
Upon his retirement as a player, Cannon became a minor league coach and manager. He is currently the field coach for the Frederick Keys, the Carolina League affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
Joseph "Joe" Cannon (born January 1, 1975) is a retired American soccer player.
After playing college soccer at UC Santa Barbara and later at Santa Clara University Cannon was not drafted by a Major League Soccer team and instead signed with the now-defunct San Diego Flash of the A-League in 1998. After a season with the Flash, he was signed by MLS's San Jose Earthquakes as the backup goalkeeper. After a shoulder injury sidelined starting goalkeeper David Kramer eight games into the 1999 season, Cannon manned the Quakes nets as the starter until 2002, leading the team to the MLS Cup championship in 2001 and winning his first MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Award in 2002.
Cannon left the Quakes in 2003, signing a six-month contract with RC Lens of France's Ligue 1. He was not able to break into the Lens first team, and left France after the season. The Earthquakes traded his rights to the Colorado Rapids for three draft picks. Cannon could not get into the squad in Colorado, as incumbent keeper Scott Garlick was playing well, but Rapids coach Tim Hankinson controversially made the switch for the playoffs. Although Colorado did not advance, Garlick was traded to the Dallas Burn, and Cannon kept his starting position.

UNCLE JOE
Uncle Joe’s been laying here
Since the cold winter snow from last year
Yes he was messing around with his best friends wife
He jacked around to long and he lost his life
Oh Uncle Joe moved a little to slow
and he lost his life
Now he's flat on his back didn’t get no slack
He paid the ultimate price
Hey sister Suzie,
Went to church every Sunday, She could do no wrong
If she could do no wrong, I guess she thought it was right
When she jumped in the sack, With old Uncle Joe that night
Hey sister Suzie, moved a little to slow
And she lost her life
Now she's flat on her back idn’t get no slack
She paid the ultimate price
Hey Joe and Suzie, moved a little to slow
And they lost her life
Now their flat on their back didn’t get no slack
They paid the ultimate price
