Mas, Más or MAS may refer to:
A mas (Occitan: [ˈmas], Catalan: [ˈmas]) is a traditional farmhouse found in the Provence and Midi regions of France, as well as in Catalonia (Spain) where it is also named masia (in Catalan) or masía (in Spanish).
A mas was a largely self-sufficient economic unit, which could produce its own fruit, vegetables, grain, milk, meat and even silkworms. It was constructed of local stone, with the kitchen and room for animals on the ground floor, and bedrooms, storage places for food and often a room for raising silkworms on the upper floor. Not every farmhouse in Provence is a mas. A mas was distinct from the other traditional kind of house in Provence, the bastide, which was the home of a wealthy family.
The mas of Provence and Catalonia always faces to the south to offer protection against the mistral wind coming from the north. And because of the mistral, there are no windows facing north, while on all the other sides, windows are narrow to protect against the heat of summer and the cold of winter. A mas is almost always rectangular, with two sloping roofs. The mas found in the mountains and in the Camargue sometimes has a more complex shape.
Mas (farmhouse) (pronounced as either "mah" or "mahs") is a New American and French restaurant located at 39 Downing Street (between Bedford Street and Varick Street) in the West Village in Manhattan, in New York City. It was established in 2004.
In old Provençal dialect, "mas" means a traditional stone farmhouse, and the restaurant emulates that theme.
The menu is New American and French cuisine, and largely organic. It includes items such as braised ribs, duck breast, organic hen, grilled Portuguese sardines, bigeye tuna, and wild nettle risotto.
The chef is Galen Zamarra, who trained in France and was the chef de cuisine at Bouley Bakery, and was named the 2001 "rising star chef of the year" by the James Beard Foundation.
The intimate, romantic, luxurious little restaurant has an air of urban sophistication. and is entered through an ornate front oak door. Mas has old wood beams, stone pillars, and a sandstone bar. The wine cellar is enclosed in glass, and can be seen from the small, somewhat cramped, attractively appointed dining room. Diners' attire ranges from jeans and T-shirts to suits. The restaurant can seat 55 diners.
A bronco or bronc, in the United States, northern Mexico and Canada, is an untrained horse or one that habitually bucks. It may be a feral horse that has lived in the wild its entire life, but can also be a domestic horse either not fully trained to saddle or poorly trained, and hence prone to unpredictable behavior, particularly bucking. The term also refers to bucking horses used in rodeo "rough stock" events, such as bareback bronc riding and saddle bronc riding. The silhouette of a cowboy on a bucking bronco is the official symbol for the State of Wyoming.
In modern usage, the word "bronco" is seldom used for a "wild" or feral horse, because the modern rodeo bucking horse is a domestic animal. Some are specifically bred for bucking ability and raised for the rodeo, while others are spoiled riding horses who have learned to quickly and effectively throw off riders. Informally, the term is often applied in a joking manner to describe any horse that acts up and bucks with or without a rider. The Wild and Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971 prevents the capture of mustangs from the wild for commercial use, and though the law has been weakened in recent years, "wild" mustangs and other completely untamed horses are still no longer used on the rodeo circuit, as bigger, more powerful animals that are sufficiently domesticated to be handled from the ground for veterinary care, travel, and stabling in small pens are more desirable as rodeo stock.
Grupo Bronco is a Mexican Grupero group from Apodaca, N.L.. Bronco's modern take on the Norteño style in the '80s and '90s helped earn them a number of international hits. Band members José Guadalupe Esparza, Ramiro Delgado, Javier Villareal, and José Luís 'Choche' Villareal crafted a sound that paid tribute to the Norteño tradition while incorporating modern instruments like keyboards, as well as a more melodic, pop style with elaborate costumes.
By 1990 "Bronco" proved that they were gaining fame because that same year they were the protagonist of the movie called "Bronco la pelicula" in which all four members of the band played a role in this film.
Bronco, who had already experienced international fame partly by help of their international hit Que no Quede Huella (May no Traces be Left) from their 1989 album A Todo Galope, and being scheduled to tours that took them all over Mexico, to the United States, Puerto Rico, Spain, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru and many other countries, found themselves in the midst of a second power dose of famousness in 1993, when they acted in the Televisa soap opera, Dos Mujeres, un Camino (Two Women, one Road), alongside Erik Estrada, Laura León, Lorena Herrera, Selena Quintanilla and Bibi Gaytán, among others. In addition to the acting, they performed the show's opening song, which was titled like the show. The CD Pura Sangre which included the song Dos Mujeres, un Camino, earned gold and platinum records in Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay, as well as in Mexico. All of Bronco's albums have achieved solid sales in the United States.
Bronco (born December 26, 1989 in Gómez Palacio, Durango, Mexico) is a Mexican luchador enmascarado, or masked professional wrestler currently working for the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) portraying a rudo ("bad guy") wrestling character. Bronco's real name is not a matter of public record, as is often the case with masked wrestlers in Mexico where their private lives are kept a secret from the wrestling fans.
