Ultimate!

Ultimate! is a comprehensive career retrospective album by English rock group the Yardbirds. It was compiled by Rhino Records in 2001 and comprises 52 songs on two compact discs. The songs are arranged chronologically by recording date and span the period from their first demo recordings in 1963 to the last singles in 1968. It includes all 17 of the group's singles (both A- and B-sides) supplemented with more than a dozen album tracks, their performance for the film Blow-Up, and three early solo numbers by singer Keith Relf.

Previous attempts at career compilations were hampered by cross-licensing problems. Yardbirds' recordings from different periods have different owners (corresponding to the tenures of their three main producers), which proved to be an obstacle. Ultimate! is the first official group compilation to feature songs from all four recording lineups of the Yardbirds—Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, and Beck/Page.

Background

Prior to Ultimate!, several Yardbirds compilation albums were issued. In March 1967, Epic Records released the ten-song collection, The Yardbirds Greatest Hits. It was the group's most successful American album on the record charts and was included on Billboard magazine's 100 Top LPs of 1967 chart. Since it preceded the recording of the Little Games album with Jimmy Page, the album does not include any songs by the Page-quartet lineup. In 1970, Epic issued a second compilation album, The Yardbirds Featuring Performances by Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page. The two-LP, 22-song collection includes songs from Little Games, but lacks any of the material recorded by the dual-lead guitar lineup with Beck and Page. Starline Records in the UK, an EMI Records subsidiary, released a compilation titled Remember... The Yardbirds in 1971. It includes twelve songs with Clapton and Beck.

Ultimate Prince

Ultimate Prince is a greatest hits album by American recording artist Prince. It was released on August 22, 2006 by Warner Bros. Records. The two-disc set contains a disc of some previously released hits (some in single edit form; only "My Name Is Prince" has not been on a previous hits collection), and another of extended remixes of hits and a B-side, most of which have only been previously released as vinyl 12-inch singles.

Release date controversy

The album was originally slated to be released in North America on March 14, 2006, but was canceled just days before its release. This is likely due to Prince not wanting competition with his new 3121, scheduled to be released only one week later. However, promo copies of the album had already been sent to some retailers and were sold before the album's recall. A second release date of May 22 was proposed, but was again canceled and the album's future was unknown for a time. Three months later, it was officially released on August 22, 2006 to generally positive reviews.

Freaky Friday (soundtrack)

The 2003 successful motion picture Freaky Friday included a soundtrack which featured songs by various artists. The album was called a "mixed bag" by allmusic, which specifically cited American Hi-Fi's "The Art of Losing," The Donnas' "Backstage", Andrew W.K.'s "She Is Beautiful," and Joey Ramone's "What a Wonderful World" as good, and strongly criticized the rest of the album.

The album was certified Gold and sold over 650,000 to date. In 2004 British girl-band Girls Aloud recorded "You Freak Me Out" for the film and was intended to be added to the soundtrack, however it was decided not to add it to the album, but was included on the re-release of the band's debut album, Sound of the Underground (2004).

Ultimate (Boney M. album)

Ultimate is a compilation album of recordings by Boney M. released by BMG-Ariola France. Early 1999 saw the release of "Ma Baker - Somebody Scream" which was a collaboration with Horny United and German band Sash! which peaked at #22 in the UK and was also a Top 30 hit in Germany. In France the single was followed up by compilation Ultimate which in addition to the new remix contained edited versions of the band's hits previously issued on The Magic Of Boney M. - 20 Golden Hits and Fantastic Boney M., an extended version of single "Kalimba De Luna" from Kalimba de Luna - 16 Happy Songs and two tracks from 1993's More Gold - 20 Super Hits Vol. II.
