Ugar

Ugar Khurd is a developed town in the district of Belgaum, state of Karnataka, country India.

Industry

Ugar khurd is known for Ugar Sugar Works. It lies on the banks of the mighty Krishna River. The population is about 39,129 of whom almost 3,000 work in Ugar Sugar Works. The factory name is THE UGAR SUGAR WORKS LTD. and owned by Shirgaonkar Brothers

Agriculture

The area surrounding Ugar has a very fertile black volcanic soil suited for Sugarcane, Cotton, Jawar, Sunflower and Soybeans. Due to proximity to Krishna river, the land is also fairly irrigated, and since last 4 - 5 years Krishna river never went down the critical level.

Education

Ugar Sugar Works started production in early 40s, and it started a school for the families of workers, called 'Shri Hari Vidyalaya'. The city has grown since, and as has the school which has steadily expanded its original reach of Marathi only mode of instruction to include both Kannada and English media. A few recent additions have expanded the school even further to include Bachelor's degrees in Arts and Commerce so the students will not have to move to nearby larger cities for their further education. The school now also has a series of vocational courses including Computer Sciences.

Ugar (river)

The Ugar (to 1878: Brzica) is a river of Bosnia, a tributary of the Vrbas river. It appears at the slopes of Vlašić, upstream of Sažići and Melina villages (at around of 1550 meters above sea level). It shares a waterhed with Ugar, Ilomska and Bila rivers.

The Ugar's length is around 45.5 kilometres, and its confluence is around 328 km². Its biggest right tributaries are: Pljačkovac, Ilomska, Kobilja, Zirin potok, Kusin potok (Ziro's and Kuso's creeks) and left: the creeks of Lužnica, Dedića, Andrijevića potok, Bunar, Oraški, and Kukavički potok.

After short, but deep canyon (below the Babanovac plateau) it enters into Pougarje, under the Ranča Mountain. By this, Ugar flows into a deep and long canyon under Skender Vakuf, around 20 kilometres downstream of Jajce. Notch of the Canyon is a very arduous and its maximal depth is (approximately) 500 m. Ugaritic alphabet

The Ugaritic script is a cuneiform (wedge-shaped) abjad used from around either the fifteenth century BCE or 1300 BCE for Ugaritic, an extinct Northwest Semitic language, and discovered in Ugarit (modern Ras Shamra), Syria, in 1928. It has 30 letters. Other languages (particularly Hurrian) were occasionally written in the Ugaritic script in the area around Ugarit, although not elsewhere.

Clay tablets written in Ugaritic provide the earliest evidence of both the North Semitic and South Semitic orders of the alphabet, which gave rise to the alphabetic orders of Arabic (starting with the earliest order of its abjad) and the Greek and Latin alphabets on the one hand, and of the Ge'ez alphabet on the other. Arabic and Old South Arabian are the only other Semitic alphabets which have letters for all or almost all of the 29 commonly reconstructed proto-Semitic consonant phonemes. According to Manfried Dietrich and Oswald Loretz in Handbook of Ugaritic Studies (eds. Wilfred G.E. Watson and Nicholas Wyatt, 1999): "The language they [the 30 signs] represented could be described as an idiom which in terms of content seemed to be comparable to Canaanite texts, but from a phonological perspective, however, was more like Arabic" (82, 89, 614).
