Reach (brand)

Reach is a brand of oral hygiene products, including toothbrushes, dental floss and mouthwash. The brand started from Reach toothbrushes developed by DuPont in 1976.

History

70s

1976 - DuPont enters toothbrush market after 4 years of research conducted by "bio-dental team" from Tufts University, headed by Percy H. Hill Jr., consultant to Applied Ergonomics company. Reach Toothbrush was the first ergonomically designed toothbrush, that proved significantly better in clinical trials and spawned a whole new field of “toothbrush design”.

1976 article at Chicago Tribune highlights the following unique selling propositions of the new toothbrush: "an angled-shaped four-sided handle (for comfortable gripping) with an extended neck (that makes hard-to-reach areas more accessible), and a compact head topped with bilevel bristles".

DuPont started new toothbrush promotion in April 1976 first in Green Bay, Wisconsin, then moved to Chicago, with advertising in newspapers and on TV.

1977 - Johnson & Johnson acquires Reach brand from DuPont, outmaneuvering Procter & Gamble.

Reach (Eyes Set to Kill album)

Reach is the debut full-length album by American rock band Eyes Set to Kill. It was released on February 19, 2008, and peaked at #29 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. The album features three songs ("Darling", "Liar in the Glass", "Young Blood Spills Tonght") from their EP, When Silence is Broken, The Night Is Torn that were re-recorded following the departure of lead vocalist Lindsey Vogt in 2007. Some songs are re-recorded, renamed songs.

Track listing

Singles

Reach is the first and lead single of the band's debut album. It was released February 5, 2008. The music video was shot in an old train car in Arizona. This is the band's first single to feature singer/guitarist Alexia Rodriguez as lead vocalist, following the departure of former vocalist Lindsey Vogt in late 2007.

Darling is released as second single from the album and also re-recorded from their debut EP When Silence Is Broken, The Night Is Torn. It was released September 22, 2008. Two music videos are released.

Amaranth (song)

"Amaranth" is the second single from Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish's Dark Passion Play album, and also the second single with the former frontwoman Anette Olzon. The official debut date was August 22, 2007, but it leaked onto the internet before the official release, though the exact date it leaked is unknown.

The title song features all the band members, but the single contains a bonus track called "While Your Lips Are Still Red", on which Anette and the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen don't play, and this song is also featured on the Finnish film "Lieksa!", released on September 2007. The official video for Amaranth was released on June 15, and has more than 70 million views as of 2014.

On August 24, 2007, the Nightwish's official website reported that "Amaranth" had already achieved gold status in their native Finland two days after its release, meaning sales of over 5000 copies, and on August 29 it was announced that the single had topped the Finnish Singles Chart. On September 6, the official site also announced that Amaranth had reached the top of the charts in Hungary and Spain too.

ØØ Void

ØØ Void (pronounced in interviews as Double-O Void) is the debut studio album by Sunn O))). The album was recorded to 24 track 2" tape at Grandmaster studios in Hollywood, a large step forward in production values from the band's demo The Grimmrobe Demos.

The third track, "Rabbits' Revenge", is an interpretation of an early version of the song "Hung Bunny" by the Melvins from the album Lysol.

The album was originally released in 2000, by Hydra Head in the USA, and by Rise Above in Europe and the United Kingdom. In 2008, ØØ Void was reissued, and released in Japan only, through Japanese record label Daymare Recordings. The reissue was a two-disc set, with the first disc containing all of the original tracks from ØØ Void and the second disc containing a collaboration between Sunn O))) and experimental/industrial group Nurse with Wound. The album was re-released in the original single-disc format in 2011 by Southern Lord Recordings, with new album artwork by Stephen Kasner.

Aether (classical element)

According to ancient and medieval science, aether (Greek: αἰθήρ aithēr), also spelled æther or ether, also called quintessence, is the material that fills the region of the universe above the terrestrial sphere. The concept of aether was used in several theories to explain several natural phenomena, such as the traveling of light and gravity. In the late 19th century, physicists postulated that aether permeated all throughout space, providing a medium through which light could travel in a vacuum, but evidence for the presence of such a medium was not found in the Michelson–Morley experiment.

Mythological origins

The word αἰθήρ (aithēr) in Homeric Greek means "pure, fresh air" or "clear sky". In Greek mythology, it was thought to be the pure essence that the gods breathed, filling the space where they lived, analogous to the air breathed by mortals. It is also personified as a deity, Aether, the son of Erebus and Nyx in traditional Greek mythology. Aether is related to αἴθω "to incinerate", and intransitive "to burn, to shine" (related is the name Aithiopes (Ethiopians; see Aethiopia), meaning "people with a burnt (black) visage"). See also Empyrean.

Void (band)

Void was a Washington D.C.-based hardcore punk/crossover thrash band. They were one of the first hardcore bands popular in the D.C. scene that was from outside the Beltway, hailing from Columbia, Maryland, a suburb located between D.C. and Baltimore.

History

The band formed in 1980 with lead singer John Weiffenbach, guitarist Jon "Bubba" Dupree, bassist Chris Stover, and drummer Sean Finnegan. They immediately acquired a cult following, in part due to Bubba Dupree's chaotic guitar style, wild performances, and John Weiffenbach's violent lyrics and frenzied behavior. In November 1981, they cut a demo tape at Inner Ear Studios which was produced by Alec MacKaye of The Faith, with whom they would share a split. They were soon picked up by Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson's label Dischord Records. In February 1982, they made their vinyl debut on Dischord with three songs on the Flex Your Head compilation. That spring, they went into the studio to cut twelve songs that were released in September 1982 as half of the Faith/Void split album released by Dischord Records.
