U.S. Route 75

U.S. Route 75 is a north–south U.S. Highway. The highway's northern terminus is in Kittson County, Minnesota, at the Canadian border, where it once continued as Manitoba Highway 75 on the other side of the now-closed border crossing. Its southern terminus is at Interstate 30 and Interstate 45 in Dallas, where it is known as North Central Expressway.

U.S. 75 was a border-to-border route, from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico at Galveston, Texas. However, the entire segment south of Dallas has been decommissioned in favor of Interstate 45, a cutoff section of town-to-town surface road having become State Highway 75.

Texas

The first freeway in Texas was a several-mile stretch of US 75 (now I-45)--The Gulf Freeway, opened to Houston traffic on October 1, 1948. The stretch of US 75 between Interstate 30 and the Oklahoma state line has exits numbered consecutively from 1 to 75 (with occasional A and B designations), excluding 9-19. All other Texas freeways that have exit numbers are coordinated with mile markers.

U.S. Route 75 in Nebraska

In the U.S. State of Nebraska, U.S. Highway 75 is a highway which goes from the Kansas border south of Dawson in the south to the Iowa border in the north at South Sioux City. Portions of the highway are freeway within the Omaha metropolitan area, including an overlap with Interstate 480. Another segment is freeway in the South Sioux City area, an overlap with Interstate 129. Much of the highway parallels the Missouri River.

Route description

U.S. Highway 75 begins at the Kansas border in Richardson County. It intersects Nebraska Highway 8 and then passes through Dawson. North of Dawson, it intersects U.S. Highway 73, Nebraska Highway 4, and Nebraska Highway 62. It continues north into Auburn, where it intersects U.S. Highway 136. It then overlaps Nebraska Highway 67 and intersects Nebraska Highway 128, where the highway becomes a divided highway. It continues as a divided highway until it intersects Nebraska Highway 2 in Nebraska City. It turns west with Nebraska Highway 2 and then turns north at the west end of Nebraska City. It intersects U.S. Highway 34 near Union. The overlapping highways then intersect Nebraska Highway 1 near Murray before splitting again south of Bellevue, where Highway 34 turns east to cross the Missouri River. Just north of Plattsmouth, the highway becomes divided again and crosses the Platte River.

U.S. Route 75 in Oklahoma

U.S. Route 75 is a major north-south highway that enters the U.S. state of Oklahoma from Texas concurrent with US 69 crossing the Red River. US 75 serves the city of Tulsa, the 2nd largest city in Oklahoma.

Route description

US 75 enters the state concurrent with US 69 as a freeway. The freeway status drops between Colbert and Calera. The two highways regain their freeway status in Durant. This freeway ends about 12 miles north of Durant. The two highways split in Atoka. Through traffic traveling to Tulsa usually uses US 69 to the Indian Nation Turnpike as a faster route.

Leaving Atoka, US 75 serves many small communities and crosses the Canadian River before reaching I-40/US 62 about 82 miles northwest of Atoka. The three highways travel east to Henryetta. US 62 and US 75 leave I-40 at an interchange with the Indian Nation Turnpike. The two highways serve as a major route through the town. US 62 leaves US 75 in Okmulgee.

Coming out of Okmulgee, US 75 starts to enter a more urban area traveling into Tulsa. US 75 becomes a freeway in Glenpool, interchanging with the Creek Turnpike in Jenks. US 75 travels through western Tulsa before reaching an interchange at I-244. The two highways travel into Downtown Tulsa together, where US 75 splits off with a short overlap with US 64/SH 51. US 75 leaves downtown crossing I-244 for a second time.
