U.S. Route 77 is a north–south United States highway. As of 2005, the highway's northern terminus is in Sioux City, Iowa at an interchange with Interstate 29. Its southern terminus is in Brownsville, Texas, at Veteran's International Bridge on the U.S.-Mexico border, where it connects with both Mexican Federal Highway 101 and Mexican Federal Highway 180.
It is unsigned in and around Dallas, Texas. Its historic segment through South Dakota and Minnesota was decommissioned with the advent of Interstate 29 but otherwise the route has been spared the decommissioning that has shortened other US highways. The route has major freeway sections in Oklahoma City including the Broadway Extension connecting suburban Edmond to downtown Oklahoma City.
The section between the Oklahoma-Texas state line and Waco, Texas is mostly co-located with Interstate 35 and the 35E spur through Dallas, Texas and, where it is co-located, it is not signed.
The two stretches in Texas that are not co-located are a stretch wholly within the city of Denton and a longer stretch from near Red Oak, to Hillsboro, the reason being that US 77 is a separate road between the two, serving the town of Waxahachie.
In Oklahoma, U.S. Highway 77 runs north–south, paralleling Interstate 35, connecting Texas to Kansas and running for 267.21 miles (430.03 km) through the central part of the state. It passes through many major cities, including Ardmore, Oklahoma City and its suburbs, Guthrie, and Ponca City. It has four lettered spur routes.
US-77 was the first highway in Oklahoma to be paved entirely across the state from border to border. It has been a paved roadway since 1930.
US-77 enters the state along with I-35 but splits off at the first exit in Oklahoma. Four miles later, it passes through Thackerville. It junctions with State Highway 32 on the west side of Marietta.
North of Marietta, US-77 passes to the west of Lake Murray and its state park. It then enters Carter County and Ardmore, where it is named Commerce Street through the city limits over a four-lane divided thoroughfare that includes frontage roads on each side from just south of SH-199 (West Broadway) to NW 12th Street much like a freeway or expressway, though all intersections on Commerce are at-grade.
U.S. Route 77 (US 77) is a part of the United States Numbered Highway System that runs from the Veterans International Bridge in Brownsville to Sioux City, Iowa. In Texas, the road runs south-north for 471.3 miles (758.5 km) from the International border with Mexico to the Oklahoma state line north of Gainesville. The highway is being upgraded to a freeway near Corpus Christi to connect to the freeway part of the highway in Raymondville as part of future I-69. A freeway in Robstown is already signed as part of I-69. From Waco to the Oklahoma state line, US 77 overlaps or runs parallel to I-35/I-35E.
US 77 crosses the Rio Grande with US 83 on the Veterans International Bridge. The two highways run together concurrent with I-69E until Harlingen. US 83 runs west (north) along I-2 to McAllen while US 77 runs north along with I-69E to Raymondville. The highway is only one to pass through Kenedy County. In Raymondville, I-69E ends.
In Robstown, US 77 again picks up the I-69E designation until the interchange with I-37 in north Corpus Christi. US 77 shares a short overlap with I-37 before leaving the highway. US 77 runs through many small to mid-size communities before arriving in Waco. Here, US 77 begins its overlap with I-35 that lasts until Hillsboro, where the highway then parallels I-35E until Red Oak.
My daddy came a-marchin'
Over the hill at dawn
Had to make that wage, man
That's how we got along
My daddy's life was workin'
Workin' all day long
Put food on the table
And the children sang a song
Yes, the children sang a song
My granddad's name was Pulpwood
Wore a coat of green
Took a wife in '31
Drove the big machine
My daddy load the lumber
Put it on the truck
I used to see him walkin' home
On U.S. 41
That's right, U.S. 41
Well, all my life's been workin'
Out the door and gone
Got to make that overtime
Keep us movin' on
I need a drink of water
Get out of the sun
Burnin' up to make that wage
That's right, U.S. 41
The boss man owns the business
Keeps it goin' strong
Blowin' like a hurricane
And work like nothing wrong
We got to keep on movin'
'Til the bell gone ring
Fill her up with kerosene
And let that lady sing
Whoa, now let that lady sing
His given name was Lucky
His wife's name, Annie Brown
Ran outside the law
And they chased him right on down
Lucky faced the lawman
The captain drew his gun
They put him with a sling blade
On U.S. 41
That's right, U.S. 41
Yeah, that's right
On U.S. 41
My daddy came a-marchin'
Over the hill at dawn
