U.S. Route 25

U.S. Route 25 (US 25) is a north–south United States highway that runs for 750 miles (1,210 km) from Brunswick, Georgia to the Ohio state line in Covington, Kentucky.

Route description

Georgia

Starting at the intersection of US 17/SR 25 in Brunswick, US 25 goes northwest to Jesup then northeast to Ludowici. It then stays at a general north route through the cities of Statesboro, Millen, Waynesboro and finally Augusta, where it crosses the Savannah River into South Carolina. The overall majority of the route is four-lane.

South Carolina

Entering South Carolina from Augusta, Georgia, US 25 goes north through downtown North Augusta, connecting with I-20 just outside town. US 25 goes northwesterly through the cities of Edgefield, Greenwood, and Greenville; going due north at Travelers Rest to the North Carolina state line. Majority of the route is four-lane, with various sections at expressway grade.

North Carolina

US 25 becomes a freeway from the state line in Tuxedo, in Henderson County. It continues for 9 miles (14 km) before connecting with I-26/US 74 near East Flat Rock. Splitting from I-26/US 74 near Fletcher, it goes north through Arden, Biltmore Forest, and downtown Asheville, before reconnecting with I-26 near Woodfin. At Weaverville, US 25 and US 70 travel northwesterly together, through Marshall and Hot Springs into Tennessee.

U.S. Route 25 in South Carolina

U.S. Route 25 (US 25) is a U.S. Highway that travels from Brunswick, Georgia to the Kentucky-Ohio state line, where Covington, Kentucky meets Cincinnati, Ohio at the Ohio River. In the U.S. state of South Carolina, it begins as a 140.4-mile-long (226.0 km) highway that travels south to north in the western part of the state, serving the northern part of the Augusta metropolitan area, Greenwood, and Greenville on its path from North Augusta to North Carolina in the Saluda Mountains, near Travelers Rest.

ADHS corridor W

US 25, from I-85 to the North Carolina state line, is part of the Appalachian Development Highway System (ADHS), which is part of Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). Of the 30.7-mile (49.4 km) section of US 25, only 22.9-mile (36.9 km) was authorized for ADHS funding. In the 2013 fiscal year, South Carolina completed Corridor W and also became the first state to complete its entire ADHS miles among all 13 Appalachian states. The entire section of US 25 along Corridor W boasts a four-to-six-lane limited-access road, with interchanges at major intersections.

U.S. Route 25E

U.S. Route 25E is the eastern branch of U.S. Route 25 from Newport, Tennessee, where US 25 splits into US 25E and US 25W, to North Corbin, Kentucky, where the two highways rejoin. The road, however, continues as US 25E for roughly 2 miles (3.2 km) until it joins Interstate 75 in North Corbin.

All of US-25E in Tennessee is now the East Tennessee Crossings Byway, a National Scenic Byway. A portion of US 25E in Tennessee is also designated as Appalachian Development Corridor S. The corridor follows US 25E between I-81 in White Pine and State Route 63 (Corridor F) in Harrogate.

US 25E has been included in the U.S. Highway System since the system's inception in 1926.

Route description

Tennessee

Northbound US 25 and westbound US 70 leave Newport concurrent with one another. At an intersection west of town, US 25 splits into two highways: US 25E, which heads north from this point, and US 25W, which continues west along US 70.

US 25E crosses over Douglas Lake south of Baneberry. Between White Pine and Witt, the highway has an interchange with Interstate 81 (exit 8). North of the Interstate, the road widens out to four lanes, and receives the Appalachian Development designation "Corridor S". US 25E intersects US 11E east of Morristown. It then crosses Cherokee Lake.
