Oregon Route 35

Oregon Route 35 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Oregon, running between Government Camp on the slopes of Mount Hood and the city of Hood River. OR 35 traverses part of the Mt. Hood Highway No. 26 (Mount Hood Scenic Byway) and part of the Historic Columbia River Highway No. 100 of the Oregon state highway system. Along the Historic Columbia River Highway in Hood River, the route is silently concurrent with U.S. Route 30.

Route description

Oregon 35 starts a few miles east of Government Camp, at an interchange with U.S. 26. It then winds around the southeastern side of the mountain, providing access to several ski resorts, snow-parks, hiking trails, campgrounds, and other recreational facilities. After rounding the eastern slope of the mountain, the highway descends into the Hood River valley, a farming community famous for its produce, in particular, apples and cherries. In the valley the route passes through the communities of Mount Hood, Lenz and Pine Grove.

At the bottom of the valley lies the city of Hood River, popular for windsurfing because of the high winds often present in the Columbia River Gorge. OR 35 provides access to the downtown core, via U.S. Route 30. OR 35 ends just north of an interchange with Interstate 84 at the Hood River Bridge over the Columbia River near Washington State Route 14.

Connecticut Route 35

Route 35 is a state highway in Connecticut, located entirely within the town of Ridgefield, Fairfield County. Route 35 starts at the New York state line, where the road continues as New York State Route 35, and ends at U.S. Route 7. The road is often used as an alternative to the congested Route 7. Originally part of New England Route 3 in the 1920s, Route 35 was designated in 1932.

Route description

Route 35 begins at the New York state line (where it continues west as NY 35) and heads east along South Salem Road and West Lane until Route 33 in downtown Ridgefield, about 1.8 miles (2.9 km) east of the state line. It then turns north along Main Street, taking over Route 33. After downtown Ridgefield, Route 35 turns right on Danbury Road while Route 116 begins straight ahead. Route 35 then proceeds in a northeast direction until it meets U.S. Route 7 about 2.7 miles (4.3 km) later. Danbury Road continues as US 7.

History

Modern Danbury Road in Ridgefield and Sugar Hollow Road in Danbury was first laid out as a turnpike in 1801 by the Danbury and Ridgefield Turnpike Corporation. The turnpike connected Ridgefield center and downtown Danbury. Tolls continued to be collected on the road until 1860 when the charter of the corporation was repealed.

Route 35 (MTA Maryland)

Route 35 is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore and its suburbs. The line currently runs from White Marsh Mall to UMBC through the city of Baltimore, with selected peak hour trips to Landsdowne. The line serves the Essex campus of the Community College of Baltimore County, the corridors of Philadelphia Road, Pulaski Highway, Monument Street, and Wilkens Avenue, the communities of Rosedale, East Baltimore, Southwest Baltimore, Elm Ridge, and Arbutus (Landsdowne trips only), and several Metro stations.

The bus route is the successor to the 3 Wilkens Avenue and 6 Monument Street streetcar lines.

History

Route 35 starting operating with that designation on May 1, 1970 between Oliver Beach and downtown Baltimore, serving the Philadelphia Road/Pulaski Highway corridor. In 1971, the Oliver Beach section was extended to serve Bowleys Quarters.

Prior to this date, various other buses and streetcar routes served both sides of the present route. The no. 35 designation was also used for several other routes in the past. The most notable was a streetcar line that operated from Lorraine to downtown between 1920 and 1929 along a route similar to the present Route 15, which from 1929 to 1954 ran only from Lorraine to Walbrook. In 1954, this line was converted to a bus, and it 1966, it was merged into Route 15. The other two bus routes that briefly ran and used the no. 35 designation were a shuttle that operated between the UMBC and Catonsville Community College campuses in 1966 (a service currently provided by Route 77), and the bus that ran along Coldspring Lane from 1968 to 1969 (where Route 33 now runs).

U.S. Route 69

U.S. Route 69 is a north–south United States highway. When it was first created, it was only 150 miles (241 km) long, but it has since been expanded into a Minnesota to Texas cross-country route. The highway's southern terminus (as well as those of US 287 and US 96) is in Port Arthur, Texas at an intersection with State Highway 87. Its northern terminus is in Albert Lea, Minnesota at Minnesota State Highway 13.

Route description

Texas

US 69 begins at its southern terminus with SH 87 in Port Arthur. This intersection is also the southern terminus for US 96 and US 287, which are concurrent with US 69. US 69, US 96, and US 287 continue in a northwest, then west, route until its intersection with Interstate 10 in southern Beaumont. At this intersection, US 69, US 96, and US 287 merge with I-10. I-10/US 69/US 96/US 287 continue in a northerly direction through Beaumont for several miles. Just after the intersection with US 90, I-10 splits from the multiplex and resumes its easterly course, leaving US 69, US 96, and US 287 heading northwest through Beaumont. US 69 north of I-10 is also known officially known as Eastex Freeway, and is an official evacuation route, just as Interstate 69/US 59 heading north from Houston is known as Eastex Freeway as well.

U.S. Route 66

U.S. Route 66 (US 66 or Route 66), also known as the Will Rogers Highway and colloquially known as the Main Street of America or the Mother Road, was one of the original highways within the U.S. Highway System. Route 66 was established on November 11, 1926, with road signs erected the following year. The highway, which became one of the most famous roads in America, originally ran from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before ending at Santa Monica, California, covering a total of 2,448 miles (3,940 km). It was recognized in popular culture by both the hit song "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66" and the Route 66 television show in the 1960s.

Route 66 served as a major path for those who migrated west, especially during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, and it supported the economies of the communities through which the road passed. People doing business along the route became prosperous due to the growing popularity of the highway, and those same people later fought to keep the highway alive in the face of the growing threat of being bypassed by the new Interstate Highway System.

Wisconsin Highway 110

State Trunk Highway 110 (often called Highway 110, STH 110 or WIS 110) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. It runs north–south in central Wisconsin from Fremont to Marion. Its southern terminus is at U.S. Highway 10 and WIS-96 southeast of Fremont. Its northern terminus is at U.S. Highway 45 in Marion.

Route description

The highway begins at an intersection with US 10 and WIS-96 southeast of Fremont. It heads north from US 10 for about half a mile before turning westward. It passes through Fremont and heads to the northwest before turning to the south toward US 10 and WIS-49.

The highway then runs concurrently to the north with US 10 and WIS-49 for about 5 miles (8.0 km). It then splits off and heads northward into Weyauwega. After it leaves the city, the highway continues to the northwest, where it will meet with WIS-22 and WIS-54. It runs concurrently to the north along both highways before WIS-54 splits off. WIS-110 and WIS-54 continue concurrently northward, passing through Manawa. North of Manawa, the highways split and WIS-110 continues to the north. Further along, it enters Marion, where it terminates at US 45.

U.S. Route 35

U.S. Route 35 (US 35) is a United States highway that runs northwest-southeast for approximately 412 miles (663 km) from northern Indiana to the western suburbs of Charleston, West Virginia. Although the highway is physically southeast-northwest, it is nominally north-south. The highway's northern terminus is in Michigan City, Indiana, at U.S. Route 20. Its southern terminus is in Scott Depot, West Virginia, at Interstate 64. Currently, the West Virginia portion of the highway is being expanded to four lanes, mostly along a completely new route. The Ohio portion has already been upgraded to a four-lane highway/freeway between the West Virginia state line and Trotwood, west of Dayton.

West Virginia

In West Virginia from Scott Depot to Point Pleasant, US 35 is currently being expanded to a four-lane expressway. Currently the route is four lanes from I-64 to the junction with the bridge to Buffalo (West Virginia Route 869), which serves the large Toyota engine and transmission plant in Buffalo, and continues as a 2-lane route for 14.6 miles (23.5 km) to another four lane section of eight miles (6 km) to the Ohio River, which is the state line.
