Tyler Hamilton

Tyler Hamilton (born March 1, 1971) is an American former professional road bicycle racer. He is the only American rider to win one of the Five Monuments of Cycling. Hamilton became a professional cyclist in 1995 with the US Postal Service cycling team. He was a teammate of Lance Armstrong during the 1999, 2000 and 2001 Tours de France, where Armstrong won the Yellow jersey. He was a key asset for Armstrong, being a very good climber as well as time-trialist. Hamilton appeared at the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics. In 2004, he won a gold medal at the individual time trial. The first doping test after his Olympic victory gave a positive result, but because the backup sample was frozen, no doping offence could be proven. After he failed further doping tests at the 2004 Vuelta a España, Hamilton was suspended for two years from the sport.

Hamilton came back after his suspension and became national road race champion in 2008. In 2009, Hamilton failed a doping test again, and was banned for eight years, which effectively caused him to retire. In July 2010, he was subpoenaed to appear before a grand jury for the use of performance-enhancing drugs in cycling. In May 2011, Hamilton admitted that he had used banned substances in competition, and returned his gold medal. In 2012, he co-authored a book The Secret Race: Inside the Hidden World of the Tour de France: Doping, Cover-ups, and Winning at All Costs, which details his doping practices and experience in the world of cycling. On August 10, 2012 the International Olympic Committee (IOC) stripped Hamilton of his 2004 gold medal.

Tyler Jay Hamilton (born June 6, 1970, in Mississauga, Ontario) is a Canadian author, blogger and Climate and Economy Reporter with the Toronto Star, Canada's largest daily-circulation newspaper. For 10 years he wrote a weekly column for the Toronto Star called Clean Break that focused on trends and developments in the clean technology and renewable energy markets. Clean Break was also the name of his personal blog, which between 2005 and 2013 served as an extension to the column. In October 2011, Hamilton joined clean capitalism magazine Corporate Knights as its editor-in-chief, and took on the role of associate publisher in January 2013 until July 2014. He left Corporate Knights in September 2015 to rejoin the Toronto Star as its Climate and Economy Reporter — part of a "philanthrojournalism" partnership between the Toronto Star and Tides Canada, which is funding the first four months of the beat. Through Corporate Knights, Hamilton served as senior advisor to its Council for Clean Capitalism, which was founded in late 2012. From summer 2012 to summer 2014, Hamilton was a director on the board of community co-op ZooShare Biogas Cooperative, which is building an anaerobic digester facility at the Toronto Zoo that will be used to turn zoo animal manure into electricity for the Ontario grid.

Tyler Hamilton is a pop singer best known for placing seventh in the first season of Canadian Idol. He is also a member of the classical music group "Due Voci." The group has recently released their first studio album in June 2010.

Career

Tyler competed in the first season of Canadian Idol which took place in 2003. He finished in seventh place. After Idol, Tyler met David Foster, who introduced him to American Idol fifth season runner up Katharine McPhee and songwriter Diane Warren, who would eventually start Tyler's classical music group "Due Voci." He partnered up with singer-songwriter Kelly Levesque and made their first album, Due Voci, which released in the summer of 2010. Tyler is currently the first Canadian Idol contestant to have an album chart in one of the major US Billboard charts.
