Tous son of Nowzar

Tous son of Nowzar (Persian توس نوذر) is a mythological Iranian prince and hero from the Pishdadian-Dynasty, which deeds and adventures were told in Ferdowsi's Shahnameh.

Tous was a wise and brave man but also proud and pugnacious. And because of these characteristics he did not possess the king's divine glory (Middle Persian: khvarrah; Persian: farr) and was not elected by the other nobles of Iran as heir to his father King Nowzar. Instead, his cousin Zav became the new king of Iran and founder of the famous Kayanian dynasty. Nevertheless, Tous was a loyal vassal to the following kings Kai Kobad and Kai Kavoos and a great warrior defending Iran against her old arch-rival Turan, the land of the Turanians. Among the first and noblest knights of Iran he accompanied the king on several campaigns, and his coat of arms shows the device of a golden elephant as well as he and his kin wore golden shoes.

Tus (biology)

Tus, also known as terminus utilization substance, is a protein that binds to terminator sequences and acts as a counter-helicase when it comes in contact with an advancing helicase. The bound Tus protein effectively halts DNA polymerase movement. Tus helps end DNA replication in prokaryotes.

In E. coli, Tus binds to 10 closely related sites encoded in the chromosome. These sites bind 23 base-pairs. The 10 sites are called Ter sites, and are designated TerA, TerB, ..., TerJ. These binding sites are asymmetric, such that when a Tus-Ter complex (Tus protein bound to a Ter site) is encountered by a replication fork from one direction, the complex is dissociated and replication continues (permissive). But when encountered from the other direction, the Tus-Ter complex provides a much larger kinetic barrier and halts replication (non-permissive). The multiple Ter sites in the chromosome are oriented such that the two oppositely moving replication forks are both stalled in the desired termination region.

Fher Olvera

José Fernando Emilio "Fher" Olvera (born December 8, 1959, Puebla, Mexico) is the secondary guitarist, composer, and lead singer for the Mexican rock band Maná, the most successful Latin American band of all time with over 40 million albums sold worldwide.

Olvera studied communications at the Universidad Iberoamericana. He has collaborated with other famous musicians such as Rubén Blades, Carlos Santana, Pablo Milanés, Luciano Pavarotti, Shakira, Zucchero, Miguel Ríos, Miguel Bosé and Juan Luis Guerra, among others.

Early career

Born as José Fernando Emilio Olvera, he started his musical career as a teenager playing with Gustavo Orozco and the brothers Ulises, Juan Diego and Abraham Calleros forming a band called Sombrero Verde in the 80s.

Maná

With Abraham Calleros and Gustavo Orozco switching interests, Olvera continued his musical trajectory with the Calleros, Juan Diego (bass), Ulises (lead guitar) and himself (vocals and backup guitar). The band recreated itself with a new name: Maná in 1986, the current members are:

Mano (stone)

A mano (Spanish for hand) is a ground stone tool used with a metate to process or grind food by hand.

History

Manos were used in prehistoric times to process wild seeds, nuts and other food, generally used with greater frequency in the Archaic period, when people became more reliant upon local wild plant food for their diet. Later, manos and metates were used to process cultivated maize.

In its early use in the American Southwest, the mano and metate were used to grind wild plants. The mano began as a one-handed tool and once cultivation of maize became more prevalent, the mano became a larger, two-handed tool that more efficiently ground food against an evolved basin or trough metate.

Besides food, manos and metates were used to separate and pulverize clay from earthen debris and stones. The resulting clay was used for pottery-making.

Grinding process

A mano, a smooth hand-held stone, is used against a metate, typically a large stone with a depression or bowl. The movement of the mano against the metate consists of a circular, rocking or chopping grinding motion using one or both hands.
