Turun Palloseura

Turun Palloseura, TPS for short and nicknamed Tepsi is a Finnish football club based in Turku. The club was founded in 1922. TPS currently play in the Ykkönen, the second level of Finnish Football, after relegation from Veikkausliiga, the highest level of Finnish football after the 2014 season. They play their home games at the 730-spectator Turun Urheilupuiston yläkenttä (Turku Sports Park's Upper Field).

History

FC TPS Turku has won the Finnish Championship 8 times since 1922. The latest was in 1975, but even though it’s been a while, TPS has done well in recent years too, placing 3rd in 1996, 2007, 2009 and 2010. TPS won the Finnish Cup in 1991, 1994 and 2010 and played in the Finnish Cup final in 1996, 1997 and 2005. FC TPS Turku is also known for its excellent junior work. Several TPS players have made it to the international fields, for example Peter Enckelman who plays for St. Johnstone and Jonatan Johansson who quit his career after 2010 season. Other famous TPS players are defender Niklas Moisander (UC Sampdoria) and striker Jani Virtanen, formerly Udinese, currently JJK.

HC TPS

TPS or Turun Palloseura is an ice hockey team and 10-time champion of SM-liiga and 1-time champion of SM-sarja. They play in Turku, Finland, at the HK Arena. In terms of championships, TPS is the most successful team in SM-liiga history.

Team history

TPS was established in 1922 as Turun Palloseura, from which the acronym derives. The club began ice hockey activities after 1929. Today, the full name of the company that owns the ice hockey team is HC TPS Turku Oy.

TPS has won the Finnish Championship in ice hockey 11 times: 1956, 1976, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2010. Only Tampere teams Ilves and Tappara have won more titles, in the SM-Sarja. TPS has more SM-Liiga titles. Coach Hannu Jortikka led the club to total of six Championships in 1989–91 and 1999–2001. TPS have also won 2 Finnish Cups, a European Cup: 1994, a European Hockey League: 1997 and a Super Cup in 1997.

Vladimir Yurzinov used to be the coach of TPS in 1992–98. The team is currently coached by Miika Elomo.

Turun Palloseura (women's football)

Turun Palloseura Naiset, commonly known as TPS, is a Finnish women's football team based in Turku. They represent Turun Palloseura in Naisten Liiga, the top division of women's football in Finland.

History

TPS took part in the national championship for the first time in 1972, and won the title in 1978. After withdrawing from the top league in 1992, they returned in 2008.
