Try Me!

Try Me! is the second studio album by James Brown and The Famous Flames. It is a collection of singles, B-sides, and outtakes from their first album, Please Please Please. It was reissued by King Records in 1964 under the title The Unbeatable James Brown: 16 Hits.

Try Me (Jason Derulo song)

"Try Me" is a song by American recording artist Jason Derulo featuring American singer Jennifer Lopez and Norwegian DJ Matoma, who also produced the song. It was released as the third single from his fourth studio album, Everything Is 4 (2015). The single was released on October 20, 2015.

Background

Derulo told Capital FM that he was in the studio working on some material for Lopez’s next album, when Lopez suggested they work on something for his album, as it was coming out sooner.

Composition

The song is a pop ballad which contains breezy, tropical, and balearic beats. According to Newsday's Glenn Gomboa, the song is a "mix of an old-school pop duet and of-the-moment, Latin-tinged production". Dan Weiss of Spin described it as "the Afro-futurist 'Sexual Healing' ". Jeff Benjamin of Fuse found the melody was reminiscent of Nick Jonas's "Jealous". Thematically, Derulo said the song is "about the prospect of meeting somebody new. You might be the person I’ve been looking for. Try me."

Try Me (Self Defense Family album)

Try Me is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Self Defense Family and first under this moniker — previous studio albums were released under the name End of a Year. The album was released on January 7, 2014 through Deathwish Inc. In November 2013, the band released a lyric video for the track "Turn the Fan On." The album was available on the digital music streaming service Spotify over a month before its official release date.

Try Me features an approximately 40-minute-long interview with the 1980s pornographic actress Angelique Bernstein (known by industry name, Jeanna Fine), split between two tracks titled "Angelique, Pt. 1" and "Angelique, Pt. 2". The interview was conducted by Self Defense Family vocalist Patrick Kindlon and guitarist Andrew Duggan in a motel in New York, and the original recording is over three hours long. The portion of the interview that appears on Try Me tells Bernstein's early life, including as Lukas Hodge of Noisey puts it, her "fatherless, bullied, sexually confused childhood, to living on couches and in doorways, to an abusive relationship, told in disturbing detail, in which she essentially becomes a prisoner," but ends before she can get into her porn career. About the interview Kindlon said, "She's just an interesting person. She has an amazing personal history and you don't need an interest in pornography to find her story compelling. You just need an interest in human beings."

Bodhisattva

In Mahayana Buddhism, bodhisattva is the Sanskrit term for anyone who, motivated by great compassion, has generated bodhicitta, which is a spontaneous wish to attain buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings. Bodhisattvas are a popular subject in Buddhist art.

Origins and outlines

In early Indian Buddhism, the term bodhisattva was primarily used to refer specifically to Gautama Buddha in his former life. The Jataka tales, which are the stories of the Buddha's lives, depict the various attempts of the bodhisattva to embrace qualities like self-sacrifice and morality.

From this Jataka tales, Bodhisattva originally meant the Buddhism practitioner of austerities that surpassed Śrāvakayana and Pratyekabuddhayana by far and completed Bodhisattvayana. Mount Potalaka, for example, is one of Bodhisattvayana. The name for practitioners who do not yet reach Bodhisattvayana was not fixed, but the terms Śrāvaka-Bodhisattva (聲聞菩薩) or Pratyekabuddha-Bodhisattva (縁覚菩薩) already appear in Āgama which is sutras of early Indian Buddhism.
