Batch 10

Batch 10 is a name journalists have given to the tenth batch of former Saudi captives to be repatriated to Saudi Arabian custody. Five of the fourteen captives in this group repatriated to Saudi captivity on November 9, 2007 were among the eleven former Guantanamo captives to be listed on the 85 men on the Saudi list of most wanted suspected terrorists, published on February 3, 2009. One of the cohort, Said Ali al-Shihri, became second in command of Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

According to Peter Taylor, reporting for the BBC, his team found that the cohort of Saudis repatriated in November 2007 problematic. He reported that many of these captives were not rehabilitated. He reported that five of the fourteen men in batch 10 escaped to Yemen, and joined jihadists there. The version of the men's names were Mohammed al-Awfi, Said al-Shihri, Yussef al-Shihri, Murtadha Ali Saeed Magram and Turki Meshawi Zayid al-Assiri. Said al-Shihri and Mohammed al-Awfi appeared in an alarming video in January 2009. Said al-Shihri took a leadership role in Al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. Yussef al-Shihri was killed in a shoot-out with Saudi security officials. He is alleged to have tried to cross the Saudi border dressed in a Burkha, an all-encompassing female garment, armed with a suicide belt. Taylor reports that Murtadha Ali Saeed Magram and Turki Meshawi Zayid al-Assiri remain at large. The other nine men repatriated in batch 10 were: Zaid Muhamamd Sa'id Al Husayn, Sultan Ahmed Dirdeer Musa Al Uwaydha, Khalid Saud Abd Al Rahman Al Bawardi, Faha Sultan, Fahd Umr Abd Al Majid Al Sharif, Nayif Abdallah Ibrahim Al Nukhaylan, Abdullah Abd Al Mu'in Al Wafti, Hani Saiid Mohammad Al Khalif and Jabir Hasan Muhamed Al Qahtani.

Truth! is the seventh album led by saxophonist Houston Person which was recorded in 1970 and released on the Prestige label.

Reception

Allmusic awarded the album 4 stars stating "much of the music that Person recorded for Prestige was exciting and quite rewarding. Those who like their jazz with a heavy dose of R&B will find a lot to admire on this CD".

Slang (album)

Slang is the sixth studio album by English hard rock band Def Leppard, released in 1996. The album marked a musical departure from their signature sound, and was produced by the band with Pete Woodroffe. Slang is the first album with new material to feature new guitarist Vivian Campbell (Campbell had previously played on the B-side collection Retro Active in 1993 and on the new song on Vault a year earlier). It charted at #14 on The Billboard 200 and #5 on the UK Albums Chart. It is also the only Def Leppard album that does not feature their recognisable logo on the album cover.

Overview

Between the releases of Retro Active and Slang, Def Leppard endured hardships including guitarist Phil Collen's divorce from actress Jacqueline Collen, bassist Rick Savage's battle with Bell's Palsy and the death of his father, and the arrests of both drummer Rick Allen and lead singer Joe Elliott for spousal abuse and assault, respectively. Though the band says Adrenalize was recorded during a bleaker time, the absence of Mutt Lange (for the first time on a Def Leppard record since 1981) made it possible for the band to show what they were really feeling. Says Joe Elliott, "There was a period with Mutt where if you came out with anything slightly negative, it was 'Fuck it!' and it was gone!" Continues Phil Collen, "We've all got personal things that have happened during the recording of Slang, and we've just ploughed on and some of it has come out on the record."

Truth Unveiled by Time (Bernini)

Truth Unveiled by Time is a marble sculpture by Italian artist Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Executed between 1646 and 1652, Bernini intended to show Truth allegorically as a naked young woman being unveiled by a figure of Time above her, but the figure of Time was never executed. Bernini still expressed a wish to add the figure as late as 1665.

Bernini's rationale for creating the work was, according to his son Domenico, as a sculptural retort to attacks from opponents criticising his failed project to build two towers onto the front of St. Peter's Basilica. Cracks had appeared in the facade due to the inability of the foundations to support the towers and Bernini's architectural expansion received the blame, although historians are unsure as to the validity of this legend.

Bernini began the preparatory work for Truth Unveiled by Time in 1645, during the critical period after the death of his main patron pope Urban VIII, and the figure of Truth was largely complete by 1652. Despite never completing the figure of Time, Bernini left the sculpture in his will in perpetuity to the first-born of the Bernini family; although in fact Bernini tried to sell the work to Cardinal Mazarin of France. It remained in the family (displayed on a tilted stucco block during the 19th century) until 1924, when it was purchased by the Italian government and transferred to its current home on a plinth in room VIII of the Galleria Borghese. Its plinth there was originally tilted but it is now on a flat plinth after a recent restoration, leaving Truth more upright as it was originally displayed.
