Troy Hill

Troy Hill is a neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's North Side. It has a zip code of 15212, and has representation on Pittsburgh City Council by the council member for District 1 (North Neighborhoods).

Troy Hill sits on a plateau above the Allegheny River on the North Side of Pittsburgh. It is approximately 3 kilometers (1.9 mi) long from Vinal Street to the end of Lowrie Street and only 1 kilometer (0.62 mi) wide from Wicklines Lane to Herr's Island.

History

Troy Hill was part of The Reserve Tract incorporated in 1833. Originally called the village of New Troy, it was settled by German immigrants who worked in the mills, tanneries, breweries and railroads that lined the Allegheny river. The migration up to Troy Hill began when a Catholic church opened a small cemetery in 1842. By 1866 one hundred families were officially Troy Hill residents. In 1877, Troy Hill became the thirteenth ward of the City of Allegheny, Pennsylvania. Subsequently, when the City of Allegheny was annexed, Troy Hill became a neighborhood of the city of Pittsburgh.

Troy (Dorsey, Maryland)

Troy, also known as Troy Hill Farm, is a historic slave plantation home located at Elkridge, Howard County, Maryland, United States. It is associated with the prominent Dorsey family of Howard County, who also built Dorsey Hall.

History

The lands of "Troy" were surveyed by Hon John Dorsey in 1694, where he moved in 1696 with 2 slaves. The property stayed in the family though his great-grandson Col. Thomas Dorsey (-1790) of the American Revolution whose estate sold it in 1808. Troy was inherited by Basil Dorsey in 1714, followed by Caleb Dorsey who reduced the land to 1,016 acres (411 ha) which was split into two unequal parts in 1760 and given to Sarah Dorsey and Thomas Dorsey. Thomas Dorsey would use the root cellar as a meeting place with Benjamin Warfield of Cherry Grove during the revolutionary war. Thomas's widow Elizabeth split Troy several times to pay debts. Vincent Bailey acquired 652 acres (264 ha) including Troy for $6,520. A stone house named "Troy Hill" was built about 1808 on the foundation of an earlier Dorsey house by Vincent Baily and is representative of the late Georgian style in Maryland architecture. The 2 ¹⁄₂-story fieldstone house is three bays wide and two deep. Outbuildings included a stone barn, smokehouse and dairy. Situated on a hill, the fieldstone basement is unusually large with four rooms.

Troy Hill (born August 29, 1991) is an American football cornerback for the Los Angeles Rams. He played college football at Oregon.

High school career

He attended St. Bonaventure HS (Ventura, CA) where he played defensive back and wide receiver for a team that posted an 11-2 record his senior season. Hill received High School honors earning the 2009 All-Channel League First-Team Defense, 2008 Second-Team All-State Junior by CalHiSports.com, 2007 All-Channel League Second-Team Defense, and All-CIF-Southern Section Northern Division Hill Earned a three-star rating from Scout.com, also a three-star recruit according to Rivals.com, and the No. 32 corner in the country.

College career

As a junior Hill was the Ducks’ fifth-leading tackler among their defensive backs. Hill finished the year with 29 tackles with 21 tackles being solo and four deflected passes. As a senior in Oregon, Hill finished seventh on the team in tackles with 71. Hill was awarded with a second-team Pac-12 all-conference choice and 14-game starter ranked second in the league (1.46 avg.) in passes defended and 11th nationally. Hill was arrested on December 16, 2013 and suspended from the team after he pled guilty to menacing; he was later reinstated to the team.

Troy Transit Center

Troy Transit Center is an Amtrak station in Troy, Michigan served by the Wolverine. This station replaced Birmingham Amtrak station on October 14, 2014, and is located about 1200 feet southwest on Doyle Drive in Troy, Michigan.

Description

The Troy Transit Center brings together the services of Amtrak, Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation (SMART) buses and taxis. Designed by local architectural firm Neumann/Smith, the one story, 2,000 square foot brick building includes a waiting room and restrooms; large expanses of glass allow natural light to flood the interior. A pedestrian bridge over the tracks allows access to the western platform and protects passengers from inclement weather.

History

In 2000, Grand Sakwa Properties gave the city of Troy title to 77 acres, 2.7 of which would be donated with the provision that funding for a transit center be secured within 10 years. In 2011, the cities of Birmingham and Troy were awarded a federal grant to assist in replacing the existing station with a new, multimodal transit center across the tracks in Troy. However, the mayor of Troy rejected the funding on ideological grounds, thus terminating the project. The $6.6 million project was resurrected by a subsequent Troy city administration, and broke ground on November 27, 2012, and was completed in October 2013. A legal dispute over title to the land kept the center from opening. In late September 2014, a settlement by Troy to acquire the land and lease the site to Amtrak was reached, and the station opened on October 14, 2014.
