Trove

Trove is an Australian online library database aggregator; a free faceted-search engine hosted by the National Library of Australia, in partnership with content providers including members of the National & State Libraries Australasia. It is one of the most well-respected and accessed GLAM services in Australia, with over 70,000 daily users.

History

Trove's origins can be seen in the development of earlier services such as the Australian Bibliographic Network. It was originally known as the Single Business Discovery Service, a project that was launched in August 2008. The intention was to create a single point of entry for the public to the various online discovery services developed by the library between 1997 and 2008 including Register of Australian Archives and Manuscripts, Picture Australia, Libraries Australia, Music Australia, Australia Dancing, PANDORA search service, ARROW Discovery Service and the Australian Newspapers Beta service.

The key features of the service were designed to create a faceted search system specifically for Australian content. Tight integration with the provider databases has allowed "Find and Get" functions (e.g. viewing digitally, borrowing, buying, copying). Important extra features include the provision of a "check copyright" tool and persistent identifiers (which enables stable URLs).

Trove (video game)

Trove is a Sandbox massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed and published by Trion Worlds. The game was released on Microsoft Windows on July 9, 2015.

Development

Trove was first revealed on November 13, 2013 with players able to sign up to play the Alpha version of the game. Access to a closed Beta test was launched on September 25, 2014, a free week of Trove was out a month later on October 24–26, 2014. The game went in Open Beta on November 4, 2014.

Launch issues

On Launch Day, the game experienced issues with queue wait times. in response the admins had to restart the servers three times. Some players were also unable to join Club Worlds or login to the game.

Hotfixes were later announced on July 10–11, 2015. and again on July 15, 2015 and July 17, 2015

Gameplay

The gameplay of Trove is a MMORPG Sandbox.

Players assume the role of one of multiple classes each with different play styles and abilities. After a brief tutorial players arrive in a central area called the 'Hub' In this area players can access Portals which act as access points to different in game worlds each one tailored for a specific stage of progression. Each portal requires a minimum level to enter which gets higher per portal, allowing for progression from easier worlds to harder worlds as the player gains in level. Each world gets progressively harder but rewards higher levels of experience and better loot/resources. Each portal is of a specific color which is designed to indicate the quality of the 'loot' which can be most commonly located there, although there is a small chance that loot of a higher quality will be found. The exception to this is the higher level Red portals which predominantly drop Legendary (orange) quality loot but have a higher chance to drop loot of relic (red), resplendent (rainbow) or shadow (dark purple) quality as well. Higher Level Red portals have a better chance for to drop the rarer loot types.

Trove (app)

Trove was a social news aggregation web and mobile application, with apps available on iOS, Android, and Fire Phone. Trove is also the name of the company behind the application.

Usage and features

Trove was a free social news discovery and sharing platform where users connect with others through shared topical interests. Users can curate personalized newsfeeds based on their interests, called troves. Users then “pick” the best stories to share with their followers both on Trove and other social media sites. Users could follow a trove to see those picks on their home page.

Smartpick

In January 2015, Trove added a “Smartpick” capability. When enabled, any relevant articles posted to a user’s Twitter account will be categorized and picked on Trove automatically.

Conversations

In October 2015, Trove launched “conversations”, which enables curators to engage their following in a discussion about a particular pick.

History

In 2009, Washington Post Labs (WaPo Labs) was created as the digital innovation and technology team of The Washington Post Company. In 2010, The Washington Post Company acquired iCurrent, a personalized news and information service that became the basis for the company's news application. In August 2013, after Amazon.com CEO Jeff Bezos bought The Washington Post Company's newspaper division, WaPo Labs was formally renamed Trove. Trove remained part of the parent company, which was renamed Graham Holdings Company (GHC).
