Tropical fish

Tropical fish are generally those fish found in aquatic tropical environments around the world, including both freshwater and salt water species. Fishkeepers often keep tropical fish in freshwater and saltwater aquariums.

Aquarium fish

Tropical fish is a term commonly used to refer to fish that are kept in heated aquariums. Freshwater tropical fish are more commonly kept than Saltwater tropical fish due to the common availability of fresh water sources, such as tap water, whereas Saltwater is not commonly available and has to be recreated by using freshwater with sea salt additions. Salt water has to be monitored to maintain the correct salinity because of the effects of evaporation. Freshwater tropical aquariums can be maintained by simply topping up with fresh water. Tropical fish are popular choices for aquariums due to their often bright coloration, which typically derives from both pigmented cells and iridescent cells. Tropical fish may include wild-caught specimens, individuals born in captivity including lines selectively bred for special physical features, such as long fins, or particular colorations, such as albino. Some fish may be hybrids of more than one species.

Tropical Fish (Book)

Tropical Fish is a short story collection by Ugandan author Doreen Baingana. It revolves around the lives of a family based in Entebbe Uganda. It follows Christine, Patti and Rosa the daughters of a relatively well off family whose father, a senior government official, becomes an alcoholic and loses everything starting with his job. Through it all the mother has to support her family on her own. It follows the lives of the three sisters. It touches religious influence in Africa, boarding school life in missionary schools, first love, superstition, inevitably AIDS, love across the colour with a sugar daddy syndrome, the sense of alienation that comes with migrating to another country (USA) and that of displacement after coming back home. Rosa, the eldest sister, was promiscuous, she died of AIDS. Patti the middle sister, turned into a born again christian. And Christine the youngest went to Los Angeles, came back eight years later to pick up a job amidst the struggles of discovering her inner self.

Tropical Fish (film)

Tropical Fish (Chinese: 熱帶魚; pinyin: Rèdài Yú; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Jia̍t-tài Hî) is a 1995 Taiwanese comedy-drama film written and directed by Chen Yu-hsun. It is an example of New Taiwanese Cinema.

Plot

The movie tells the story of Liu Chih-chiang (劉志強, played by Lin Chia-hung [林嘉宏]), a disaffected Taipei high school student who is kidnapped and taken by Ah Ching (阿慶, played by the filmmaker Lin Cheng-sheng) to rural Chiayi County in southern Taiwan.

Locations

Chih-chiang's school scenes were filmed at Bailing Senior High School (百齡高中) in Shilin, Taipei, while several other scenes were filmed in Da'an District. The kidnappers hold Chih-chiang in Dongshi, a coastal Chiayi County township noted for its oyster production. The end of the film shows the business district of Dunhua Road in Taipei.

Music

In addition to the music score, two songs by Wu Bai & China Blue, "This Continuous Sinking" (繼續墮落) (from their 1994 album Wanderer's Love Song) and "Go to the Graveyard" (墓仔埔也敢去) are featured in the movie. Different (live) versions of both songs were released on Wu Bai & China Blue's 1995 live album 伍佰的LIVE.
