Ringside

Ringside is an indie rock band from Hollywood, California, originally formed in Los Angeles. They specialize in fusing indie rock with electronic beats. The band consists of Scott Thomas, (vocals, guitar, and keyboard), Kirk Hellie (guitarist), Sandy Chila (live drums), Max Allyn (live keys), and actor Balthazar Getty, who doubles as a beatmaker and producer. Scott Thomas' inspiration came from artists like The Stooges, The Clash, T. Rex, and Depeche Mode. Thomas eventually collaborated with Getty, who was already into making beats for underground hip-hop groups.

Their debut album Ringside was released on April 19, 2005 under Fred Durst's label Flawless Records and Geffen Records, with the single "Tired of Being Sorry" achieving moderate success. The song was later covered by singer/songwriter Enrique Iglesias on his eighth album Insomniac and was released as a single in Europe. Also the same song, "Tired of Being Sorry" was featured on the movie Her Minor Thing. The song "Struggle" from their self-titled album was featured on a Pontiac Torrent commercial, the movie Doom and on the TV series Six Feet Under. The track also appeared briefly on the ambient play list of the Schecter Guitars website.

Ringside (Cold Chisel album)

Ringside is a live album released by Cold Chisel in 2003. Recorded over 4 nights in June 2003, it spent 7 weeks in the Australian charts, peaking at number 27.

Album details

The album contains two Steve Prestwich songs ("Lovelight", "All I Wanna Do") not released on any other Cold Chisel album, and "Fallen Angel" that later appeared on a solo Don Walker album. These were the first Cold Chisel songs to feature Prestwich and Walker on lead vocals.

Ringside features covers of Johnny Cash's "Big River", the standard "Cry Me A River", and Dragon's "Sunshine", written by Walker's friend Paul Hewson.

The concert was an attempt to feature the band, "performing in a smaller, intimate environment," and often, "in an acoustic format." Inspired by Elvis Presley's 1968 comeback special, there was a 360 degree view of the rotating stage, with the furthest seats from the stage being within 30 metres.

Plot

Trixie Zurbo is an eccentric woman who longs to quit her job as a security guard in a department store and become a private detective. She finally gets her wish when she takes a job in security at a casino. She accidentally becomes involved in a murderous plot and Trixie takes her first case; however, her unschooled command of the English language and comedy intervenes and the mess begins.

Trixie (slang)

Trixie is a generally derogatory slang term referring to a young urban white woman, typically single and in her late 20s or early 30s. The term originated during the 1990s in Chicago, Illinois. The term was popularized by a satirical website dedicated to the Lincoln Park Trixie Society, a fictional social club based in Chicago's upscale Lincoln Park neighborhood.

Concept

Trixies are described as "social climbing, marriage-minded, money-hungry young ladies that seem to flock to the upwardly-mobile neighborhood of Lincoln Park." Another description calls them "the women with Kate Spade bags for every day of the week; the ex-sorority girls still lusting after big, dumb jocks; the women who go to law school to find husbands." The stereotypical counterparts of Trixies, and the men they usually end up marrying, are referred to in slang as "Chads".

Shane DuBow of National Geographic, reporting about the Lincoln Park Trixie Society website, wrote that the Trixie stereotype describes a "blond, late-twenties woman with a ponytail who works in PR or marketing, drives a black Jetta, gets manicures and no-foam skim lattes", noticing that the website looked like a straight-faced parody.
