Tank (band)

Tank is a British heavy metal band, formed in 1980 by Algy Ward, a former member of The Damned. The band is known as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement. Tank was often compared to Motörhead as both bands, trios fronted by singing bassists, played a loose, almost punk-styled metal music with often colourful lyrics.

History

Their 1982 debut album, Filth Hounds of Hades, was positively received by both punk and metal fans as well as most critics, regarded now as one of the best albums of the NWOBHM movement. Allmusic critic, Eduardo Rivadavia; described it as "Tank's best album ever, and qualifying it as an essential item in the record collection of any serious '80s metal fan."

As was the case with many other bands of the era, Tank was never able to build on the promise shown by their first album. The band continued on for years through lineup changes and waning commercial fortunes before finally disbanding in 1989. Ward resurrected the band in 1997 playing tour dates around Europe and Japan for a couple of years. A new album, Still At War, emerged in 2002. In August 2006 Ward reported that he was putting the finishing touches on the demos for the next Tank album, Sturmpanzer. The band's website has listed the release date for this album as "TBA" for years.

An Extremely Goofy Movie

An Extremely Goofy Movie (also known as A Goofy Movie 2), is a 2000 American direct-to-video animated comedy film made by Walt Disney Pictures, produced by Walt Disney Television Animation and animation production by Walt Disney Television Animation (Australia) Pty. Limited. Directed by Douglas McCarthy, it is the sequel to the 1995 film A Goofy Movie, featuring the return of characters from the film adaptations of based on the animated television series Goof Troop. The story follows Max's freshman year at college, which is compounded by his father's presence when Goofy arrives at the same college to get a degree because of his failure to complete college.

Plot

Max Goof, now nearly 18 years old, departs for college with his best friends P.J. and Bobby Zimeruski. He strives to work together with his friends to become the top team at the college X Games. Upon arriving, Max is met by the "Gamma Mu Mu" fraternity, who are the reigning X-Games champions, including their leader, Bradley Uppercrust III. Bradley invites only Max to join his fraternity, but Max refuses to leave his friends behind. A rivalry starts between Max's team and Bradley's Gammas, and they bet whoever loses in the finals will be towel-boy to the other.

Triumph (song)

"Triumph" is a single released by Wu-Tang Clan, from their 1997 album Wu-Tang Forever. The song does not have a chorus. Instead, it solely consists of verses from the nine living Wu-Tang members, as well as an intro by Ol' Dirty Bastard.

The video was directed by Rush Hour director Brett Ratner. The video begins with a fictional breaking news bulletin alerting of a massive swarm of killer bees converging on Manhattan via New York City's four other boroughs, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and the Wu's native Staten Island. This opening is very similar in style to the opening of Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film Romeo + Juliet.

The news anchorwoman then goes on to reveal that none other than Ol' Dirty Bastard is atop a Manhattan skyscraper surrounded by police helicopters and police with guns drawn, ready to jump and with his finger on a detonator to what is assumed to be a bomb. The anchorwoman then mentions that there just may be a connection between these two seemingly coincidental events. Ol' Dirty Bastard doesn't actually appear in the video. According to Brett Ratner, ODB was uninterested in appearing in the video since he had no verse on the song, so he left the set before filming and a stand-in was used in his place.

Triumph (sternwheeler)

Triumph was a sternwheel steamboat that ran on the Nooksack River in Whatcom County, Washington in the 1890s.

Career

Triumph is reported to have been built by Capt. Simon P. Randolph (d.1909 at Seattle), either 1889 at Lynden, WA or in 1892 at Whatcom. Randolph, who received his master's license in 1871, had been the first man to operate a steamboat on Lake Washington, had commanded or owned a number of smaller sternwheelers over his career including Fannie, Old Settler, Comet, and the Edith R. His son, Capt. Preston Brooks Randolph (1860-1939), was also involved in ownership and management of the later boats, including Triumph.

Triumph was served on the Nooksack River, which the Randolphs had developed as a steamboat route. In 1897, Triumph was destroyed by fire near the town of Marietta, WA, in Whatcom County.

Triumph (magazine)

Triumph was a monthly American magazine published by L. Brent Bozell, Jr. from 1966 to 1975. It commented on religious, philosophical, and cultural issues from the traditionalist Catholic perspective.

Origin

Bozell founded Triumph in 1966 as a magazine for American Catholic conservatives following the Second Vatican Council. Bozell, previously an editor for National Review founded by his brother-in-law William F. Buckley, Jr., was put off by the insufficient respect the largely Catholic editorial board of the magazine paid to Catholic social teaching. Specifically, he protested the prevailing attitude of "Mater si, magistra no" towards Pope John XXIII's papal encyclicals Mater et Magistra and Pacem in terris. For example, Bozell considered Buckley too soft in his opposition to abortion.

Dismayed by the direction in which American intellectual conservatism was going, Bozell resigned from National Review in 1963 and assembled the first issue of Triumph in September 1966. With Bozell on the editorial board were Michael Lawrence, Frederick Wilhelmsen, and, for a time, Jeffrey Hart and John Wisner. At first, National Review praised Triumph as a fine manifestation of the "church militant" at a time when much American religion had been debased by the worship of false idols. Later, the strident activism of Triumph's editors led to an estrangement between the two journals.
