Trio (band)

Trio was a German band, formed in the small German town of Großenkneten in 1980. The band is most noted for the song "Da da da, ich lieb dich nicht, du liebst mich nicht, aha aha aha" (usually simply "Da Da Da") which was a hit in 30 countries worldwide. Trio was part of the Neue Deutsche Welle (or NDW); however, the band preferred the name "Neue Deutsche Fröhlichkeit", which means "New German Cheerfulness", to describe their music. At that time, as now, popular songs were based on extremely simple structures that were ornately produced. Trio's main principle was to remove almost all the ornamentation and polish from their songs, and to use the simplest practical structures (most of their songs were three-chord songs). For this reason, many of their songs are restricted to drums, guitar, vocals, and just one or maybe two other instruments, if any at all. Bass was used very infrequently until their later songs, and live shows often saw Remmler playing some simple pre-programmed rhythms and melodies on his small Casio VL-1 keyboard while Behrens played his drums with one hand and ate an apple with the other.

+/- (band)

+/-, or Plus/Minus, is an American indietronic band formed in 2001. The band makes use of both electronic and traditional instruments, and has sought to use electronics to recreate traditional indie rock song forms and instrumental structures. The group has released two albums on each of the American indie labels Teenbeat Records and Absolutely Kosher, and their track "All I do" was prominently featured in the soundtrack for the major film Wicker Park. The group has developed a devoted following in Japan and Taiwan, and has toured there frequently. Although many artists append bonus tracks onto the end of Japanese album releases to discourage purchasers from buying cheaper US import versions, the overseas versions of +/- albums are usually quite different from the US versions - tracklists can be rearranged, artwork with noticeable changes is used, and tracks from the US version can be replaced as well as augmented by bonus tracks.

!!! is a dance-punk band that formed in Sacramento, California, in 1996 by lead singer Nic Offer. Its name is most commonly pronounced "Chk Chk Chk" ([/tʃk.tʃk.tʃk/]). Members of !!! came from other local bands such as The Yah Mos, Black Liquorice and Popesmashers. They are currently based in New York City, Sacramento, and Portland, Oregon. The band's sixth full-length album, As If, was released in October 2015.

Background and history

!!! is an American band formed in the summer of 1995 by the merger of part of the group Black Liquorice and Popesmashers. After a successful joint tour, these two teams decided to mix the disco-funk with more aggressive sounds and integrate the hardcore singer Nic Offer from the The Yah Mos. The band's name was inspired by the subtitles of the movie The Gods Must Be Crazy, in which the clicking sounds of the Bushmens' Khoisan language were represented as "!". However, as the bandmembers themselves say, !!! is pronounced by repeating thrice any monosyllabic sound. "Chk Chk Chk" is the most common pronunciation, which the URL of their official website and the title of their Myspace page suggest is the preferred pronunciation.

Trio!

Trio! was a one-time acoustic jazz fusion supergroup during 2005. It consisted of bassist Stanley Clarke (from Return to Forever), jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty (from The Mothers of Invention, Mahavishnu Orchestra), and banjoist Béla Fleck (whose band was on a one-year hiatus).

Much of the material performed by Trio! was from The Rite of Strings, with Fleck on banjo instead of Al Di Meola on guitar.

History

Formed in mid-2005, Trio! toured the U.S. East Coast between May and October 2005, as well as playing dates in Canada, Spain, Switzerland, and The Netherlands. They performed at numerous jazz festivals, including the Newport Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, the JVC Festival in Los Angeles, the Burlington Discover Jazz Festival in Burlington, VT, and the Syracuse Jazz Festival in Syracuse, NY (where the date of their performance was officially proclaimed "Bela Fleck, Stanley Clarke, and Jean-Luc Ponty Day" by the Mayor). This supergroup being a side project for all three members, and as Fleck went back on tour with the Flecktones to promote their album The Hidden Land, the group disbanded.

TRIO (The.Rhythm.Is.Odd) is a Swedish progressive psychedelic band formed in Stockholm, Sweden, in September 2006. The group was founded by the Swedish drum legend Leif Fredriksson, together with Bjorn Egelius, and Tobbe Johanson. The result became TRIO, which is an acronym for "The Rhythm Is Odd". TRIO has performed in various places such as Nanning, China.

The way TRIO perform its music is often concept album style. The songs follow a theme, and TRIO performs them often as a single piece.

Music

Their music is based on odd time signature grooves, often referred to as odd meter. Examples include 9/8 rhythms or 13/8 rhythms. Their music also has some psychedelic influences, reminiscent of the mid-1960s canterbury scene. TRIO is an acronym for "The.Rhythm.Is.Odd", referring to the strange time signature that is the core in their music. A Second album is announced to be released in late 2010.
