Trina Robbins

Trina Robbins (born 1938) is an American comics artist and writer. She was an early and influential participant in the underground comix movement, and one of the few female artists in the fledgling underground comix movement. Both as a cartoonist and historian, Robbins has long been involved in creating outlets for and promoting female comics artists.

Career

Early work

Robbins was an active member of science fiction fandom in the 1950s. Her illustrations appeared in science fiction fanzines like the Hugo-nominated Habakkuk, where her work appeared under the name Trina Castillo.

Comics

Robbins' first comics were printed in the East Village Other; she also contributed to the spin-off underground comic Gothic Blimp Works.

In 1969, Robbins designed the costume for the Warren Publishing character Vampirella, for artist Frank Frazetta in Vampirella #1 (Sept. 1969).

She left New York for San Francisco in 1970, where she worked at the feminist underground newspaper It Ain't Me, Babe. That same year she established the first all-woman comic book, the one-shot It Ain't Me, Babe Comix. From this period on, Robbins became increasingly involved in creating outlets for and promoting female comics artists, through projects such as the comics anthology Wimmen's Comix, with which she was involved for twenty years. Wimmen's Comix #1 featured Robbins' "Sandy Comes Out", the first-ever comic strip featuring an "out" lesbian.

Trina

Katrina Laverne Taylor (born December 3, 1978), better known by her stage name Trina, is an American rapper and model.Trina first gained notoriety in 1998 with her appearance on Trick Daddy's second studio album www.thug.com on the single "Nann Nigga". Since then, she has released five moderately successful studio albums. XXL Magazine calls her "the most consistent female rapper of all time".

Source Magazine celebrated Trina's career for the 2012 Women's History month. In 2013, Complex Magazine ranked "Pull Over" #27 in their Top 50 Best Rap Songs by Women. In 2014, Trina was included in Billboard's list of the "31 Female Rappers Who Changed Hip-Hop".

Early life

Her father is from the Dominican Republic and her mother is of Bahamian descent Trina's parents were separated while she was growing up. She lived in Liberty City and in Pembroke Isle, Florida. She attended Miami Northwestern Senior High School.

Music career

1998–2000: Career beginnings and Da Baddest Bitch

In her spare time, Trina wrote rap rhymes, which caught the attention of Miami rapper Trick Daddy whom then approached her in 1998 to be featured on his song "Nann Nigga". The song was later released as the lead single from his second studio album, www.thug.com, which was released in September 1998. The single later became a hit as it reached number sixty-two on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number three on the Rap Songs chart. Thanks to the success of the single, Trina gained popularity and signed a record deal with Slip-n-Slide Records with distribution from Atlantic Records. Trina subsequently began work on her debut album.

Ohio Valley Wrestling

Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) is an American independent professional wrestling promotion based in Louisville, Kentucky. OVW was initially a member promotion of the National Wrestling Alliance from its inception in 1997 until 2000, when it became the primary developmental territory for the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE). OVW remained in this role from 2000 until 2008. The promotion was unaffiliated from February 7, 2008 until November 2011, and is run by owner Nightmare Danny Davis.

In 2012, OVW became the farm territory for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). However, the relationship ended on November 2, 2013. As of December 2011, over 100 OVW alumni have appeared in WWE.

History

OVW was founded by Nightmare Danny Davis in 1997 as an NWA member. However, OVW separated from NWA in 2000. After, the company became the farm territory of World Wrestling Federation/ Entertainment. Jim Cornette was head booker of OVW and majority investor, but he was fired by WWE for slapping a student, Anthony Carelli. He was replaced by Paul Heyman, who booked OVW until being called up to be the booker of the ECW brand. Greg Gagne was supposed to be booker after Heyman, but his knowledge of OVW was limited so the booking was extended to also include Al Snow and Danny Davis. Gagne was later released from the company, leaving booking to Snow and Davis.

Trina is a common female first name of Scandinavian origin. The name is based on the Latin word for "triple", Trena, and is occasionally used in reference to the Trinity.
