Trilogy

A trilogy (from Greek τρι- tri-, "three" and -λογία -logia, "discourse") is a set of three works of art that are connected, and that can be seen either as a single work or as three individual works. They are commonly found in literature, film, or video games. Three-part works that are considered components of a larger work also exist, such as the triptych or the three-movement sonata, but they are not commonly referred to with the term "trilogy."

Most trilogies are works of fiction involving the same characters or setting, such as The Deptford Trilogy of novels by Robertson Davies and The Apu Trilogy of films by Satyajit Ray. Others are connected only by theme: for example, each film of Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colors trilogy explores one of the political ideals of the French Republic (liberty, equality, fraternity) and each novel in Paul Auster's The New York Trilogy uses formats from detective fiction to explore existential questions. Trilogies can also be connected in less obvious ways, such as The Nova Trilogy of novels by William S. Burroughs, each written using cut-up technique.

Trilogy (film)

Trilogy (also released as Truman Capote's Trilogy) is a 1969 American drama film directed by Frank Perry. It was listed to compete at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival, but the festival was cancelled due to the events of May 1968 in France.

Trilogy (group)

Trilogy was a vocal trio hailing from New York City, USA. Its members were Duran Ramos (real name: Randy Duran Ramos), Angel DeLeon, and Joey Kid (real name: Jose Antonio Baez-Perez). The trio released a couple of singles in the late 1980s and early 90s. The trio were the main vocalists on the C+C Music Factory 1994 album Anything Goes!.

Duran Ramos did songwriting and produced on various productions of Robert Clivillés and David Cole, the record producers behind C+C Music Factory, and on a few remixes in the 1990s. He has garnered several gold and platinum awards, A.S.C.A.P. awards, and has had 14 Top 40 Hits on Billboard.

Joey Kid released an album in 1990 and a couple of singles in the late 1980s. His single, "Counting the Days," peaked at #70 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1990.

Angel DeLeon with Freddy Correa had a career as TV host starting in 1998. In 1999, Angel DeLeon began hosting the World Famous Montreaux Jazz Festival, an event in conjunction with Direct TV BRAZIL. He also serves as voiceover, singer, and producer for FACE THE MUSIC, a music & sound design studio in NYC. His work can be heard on such campaigns as Snickers, Toyota, and Gatorade to name a few.

Xanthosoma

Xanthosoma is a genus of flowering plants in the arum family, Araceae. The genus is native to tropical America but widely cultivated and naturalized in other tropical regions. Several are grown for their starchy corms, an important food staple of tropical regions, known variously as malanga, otoy, otoe, cocoyam (or new cocoyam), tannia, tannier, yautía, macabo, ocumo, macal, taioba, dasheen, quequisque, ʻape and (in Papua New Guinea) as Singapore taro (taro kongkong). Many other species (including especially X. roseum) are used as ornamental plants, and in popular horticultural literature are known as ‘ape or elephant ear (from the purported resemblance of the leaf to an elephant's ear), although the latter name is sometimes also applied to members with similar appearance and uses in the closely related genera Caladium, Colocasia (i.e., taro), and Alocasia. The leaves of most Xanthosoma species are 40-200 cm long, sagittate (arrowhead-shaped) or subdivided into three or as many as 18 segments. Unlike the leaves of Colocasia, those of Xanthosoma are usually not peltate- the upper v-notch extends into the point of attachment of the leaf petiole to the blade.

Ape (2012 film)

Ape is a 2012 American independent film written and directed by Joel Potrykus, starring Joshua Burge as Trevor Newandyke. The film is notable for reigniting the American indie slacker niche of the mid '90s, both in aesthetic and voice.

Plot

A black comedy and rage fantasy, the film follows failing stand-up comic Trevor as he suffers one humiliation after another, both on stage and off. His only outlet is a secret pyromania on display at home and in public. His anger hits the streets after making a deal with a man dressed as the Devil.

Release

Ape made its world premiere at the 2012 Locarno Film Festival, where it won Best New Director and Best First Feature Special Mention at the festival. It went on to make its North American premiere at the Vancouver International Film Festival, and US premiere at AFI Fest in Hollywood. The film received a theatrical release through Factory 25.

Reception

Ape has received generally favorable reviews from critics. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a rating of 100%, based on 5 reviews.

Creatures (company)

Creatures Inc. (株式会社クリーチャーズ, Kabushiki-gaisha Kurīchāzu) is an affiliate of Nintendo and a Japanese video game development company. It was founded by Tsunekazu Ishihara in November 1995, as a successor to Shigesato Itoi's company Ape Inc. It is well known for producing Pokémon card games and toys. Its current President is Hirokazu Tanaka. The company has its headquarters on the second floor of the Gobancho KU Building (五番町KUビル, Gobanchō KU Biru) in Chiyoda, Tokyo, in proximity to the Japan Rail Ichigaya Station.

History

Ape Inc. was founded in March 1989 and Shigesato Itoi became its chief executive officer. Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi had wanted to support new talent in game design. Liking Itoi's work, he proposed the idea of the company to Itoi and invested in it. Ape's staff included Tsunekazu Ishihara, who later became the Pokémon Company's CEO, and Ashura Benimaru Itoh, a renowned illustrator. They began work on Mother, which released in July. Its music was composed by Hip Tanaka, who later became the second CEO of Creatures. The team continued with work on Mother 2. When the project began to falter, Satoru Iwata of HAL Laboratories was brought in to help the project. The game was released in August 1994 and the Ape team dismantled.
