Tricks is a young adult verse novel by Ellen Hopkins, released in August 2009. It tells the converging narratives of five troubled teenage protagonists. The novel is noted for its gritty realism in addressing issues of sexual activity and drug use for a young adult readership. This book has also been banned due to drug uses, sexual themes, and language.

Plot

In the novel Tricks, the story begins with five teenagers, all residing in various parts of the United States. The first character, Eden Streit, lives with her father, mother, and younger sister, Eve. Being a daughter of a minister also comes with expectations, such as not dating until marriage and marrying men within the Christian faith. But for Eden, that doesn’t matter with Andrew, her boyfriend. Her only problem is trying to keep their relationship a secret from her parents. The second character, Seth Parnel, lives with his father after his mother dies from cancer a year and a half ago. Seth struggles with identifying his sexuality after he breaks up with his girlfriend, Janet Winkler. He meets Loren and is catapulted into a new kind of relationship. The third character, Cody Bennet, doesn’t know who his biological father is and spends his time with his step-father Jack. Jack hasn’t been feeling well, and Cody starts to drink. The fourth character, Whitney Lang, lives with her mother, while her father works and lives in another city nearby and her sister, Kyra, attends college. Whitney is disconnected with her mother and likes when her dad is home since she sees him as her hero. Whitney hooks up with Lucas at one of Kyra’s performances and they hit it off, but she still worries about committing to the relationship with him. The fifth character, Ginger Cordell, encounters rape from an early childhood and deals with keeping these secrets from her family. Ginger’s only friend is Alex, and she has begun questioning how she feels about her.

Tricks (film)

Tricks, (Polish: Sztuczki) is a 2007 Polish film written, directed and produced by Andrzej Jakimowski starring Damian Ul, Ewelina Walendziak and Tomasz Sapryk. Tricks is Andrzej Jakimowski's follow up to Squint Your Eyes (Zmruz oczy), his 2002 debut.

Plot

A charming bittersweet narrative unfolds from director Andrzej Jakimowski. This is the story of siblings Stefek, 6, and Elka, 18, along with Elka's car mechanic boyfriend Jerzy during one sun-drenched summer. The siblings live with their shopkeeper mother. Their father has left their mother for another woman, unaware of Stefek's existence. After a chance encounter at the local railway station, and despite a denial by his sister that this was his father, Stefek decides to challenge fate to engineer another meeting. He believes that the chain of events he sets in motion will help him get closer to his father who abandoned his mother. His sister Elka teaches him how to bribe fate with small sacrifices. Tricks played, coupled with a number of coincidences eventually bring the father to the mother's shop but the long awaited re-union does not immediately materialise as expected. As a last chance Stefak tries his good luck with the most risky of his tricks.

Iko is an Internet forum package written in the PHP scripting language. Sometimes Iko is also called Iko Bulletin Board. Available under the MIT License, Iko is free and open source software.

Features

In version 1.3.4 of Iko there are the basic forum features. These are features like an administration panel, where nodes and categories can be created, and a moderation panel, where the reported posts can be reviewed. Every user can write personal messages to other users and can also see whether the receiver has read his message or not. It is possible to use the well known BBCodes in the threads and to mention other users in the post.

Planned features

In the future it is planned that attachments can be added to posts and personal messages. Also the use of Emojis will be supported.

Iko (band)

Iko are an English rock band from Exeter, Devon. Formed in 2005 the band consists of Kieran Scragg (lead vocals and guitar) and Neil Reed (piano and keyboards).

Scragg and Reed had been members of the just disbanded indie-rock band Buffseeds signed to Fantastic Plastic Records.

In 2007 Iko signed a deal with the Danish record label Copenhagen Records which allowed them to tour the Scandinavian countries.

Iko have released two studio albums: I Am Zero (2006), and Ludo Says Hi (2009).
